  1. I feel like we’re playing with serious fire by adamantly holding out for so much money for Lukaku. If they get sick of us playing hardball and move on to some cheaper alternative, then what? We’re stuck with that anchor yet again.
  2. We have a sell-on percentage anyways, right? And as recently as a month or so ago during the Euro’s Guehi was still naming some Chelsea legends as his inspiration so he clearly has affection towards the club despite us selling him. So why not offer them like £35m + Trev or something? I’m 100% sure he’d choose us over bloody Newcastle. But CB being an area the club are looking at hasn’t been mentioned once all summer so 🤷‍♂️ We have to pray that there’s dramatic improvement with what we have I guess. Maybe the combination of Cucu being inverted plus Lavia and Caicedo all being in midfield will make the defense’s job easier? That’s a lot of highly mobile and athletic legs to screen our CB’s.
  3. So why don’t we just…..ya know…. 🤦‍♂️
  4. He looked pretty promising when he first arrived here and I did actually think he’d be a solid squad option this season. But I’ve now come to realize that he’s just not suited to the PL and the primary reason is that he turns like a cruise ship. He is unbelievably slow when he need to recover quickly. think he’d perfectly suit Serie A where they often play walking pace football and his weakness won’t be exposed as much.
  5. With Omorodion coming in for £35m I’m extremely skeptical that there’ll be any juice to the Osimhen deal.
  6. Is Guehi that sort? I always got the impression that it was Andersen at Palace who was the “boss” of their defense. And as for price, I’ve seen that they want £60-65m for him. I don’t think he’s nearly that level.
  7. Eh. For me, Calafiori doesn’t look like the dominant, commanding CB who settles a whole defense. That’s what Saliba is for them. We need that Saliba type as I think Colwill can be our Calafiori as LCB. We need an on-pitch general basically like a JT/Van Dijk who keeps everyone organized and in shape. I’m hoping Tosin can become that as he definitely has leadership qualities from what we’ve seen in training videos. But whether he’s good enough remains to be seen.
  8. So who is this beast of a CB that’s out there who we could realistically buy and instantly shore up the defense? All of you are calling for it but who is there? I’m not quite at the panic stage like most Chelsea fans I see on Twitter and elsewhere are about our defense. There were always going to be growing pains in preseason with such a massive shift in playing style. Tbh, I had thought that it would show itself more in attack and possession than in defense but apparently we’ve looked pretty good with the ball? I haven’t watched a single one of these preseason matches. For right now I’ll put it mostly down to teething issues with the new system. I don’t think Colwill, Tosin etc are dogshit players. I’m going to reserve judgement until after the first 3-5 PL matches before panicking. If we concede for fun still then I’ll worry.
  9. Notice Caicedo isn’t in the squad. Injured again? And I remember Maresca saying the other day that he’d leave Reece out for the final couple of preseason matches since he was suspended to start the PL campaign? Need to get whoever else settled to stand in for him.
  10. I just don’t like Reece at CB. But I don’t see where else makes sense for him in Maresca’s setup. Gusto has looked better and more comfortable inverting and I think it’ll be the same with Cucu when he returns.
  11. Yeah, that’s why I ask. If Alvarez isn’t happy with the wages presented by Atleti as Fabrizio says and tanks the deal, what do we do with Connor then? Seems the only way Atleti let Omorodion leave is if they get Alvarez.
  12. Wonder wtf we’d do if this Gallagher/Omorodion/Alvarez merry-go-round collapses.
  13. Nico Jackson and two raw kids. Maresca has his work cut out for him that’s for sure. We need to hope that Palmer has crazy good output again and that Nkunku bags a bunch of goals too.
  14. Reminds me of a young Lukaku in the vids I’ve watched. All the physical tools but not very refined or polished at all. I just don’t get our extreme desire to get him right now. He’s a pure development project when we already have Guiu.
  15. So literally nothing has changed since last week’s Osimhen briefing. We’re still basically haggling and trying to find any way possible not to outright buy him it seems. This all has some other club swooping in out of nowhere and getting him after we fuck around for weeks.
  16. This talk of potentially using Jackson in the LW. Are we going to sell one of Sterling or Mudryk to make room? When Palmer is back I just assume he’s got the RW locked down and then figured Nkunku for the LW. Because if we bring in an additional TWO strikers that means the Nkunku false 9 experiment becomes unneeded.
  17. It just feels like we’re neglecting the now for the later. I’m fine with us buying up all these top talents but we also need to be buying more plug and play guys for right now. I don’t think this new ownership fully grasps the fact that going without UCL football for several consecutive seasons is very damaging. The mentality feels like “meh, we may be out of it for 3 years or so but when these kids come good we’ll be back for the long run.” And that’s very dangerous. Especially for a club like us with a comparatively tiny stadium. That UCL money and the sponsors that want to associate themselves with you are much more important to us than our rivals who get lots more cash through their gates.
  18. Brief just went out. Yep, Omorodion is definitely on the way if City agree to sell Alvarez to Atleti. Orstein now also echoing Matt Law about Osimhen still being possible even if we sign Omorodion. How that’s going to work, idk. There’s talk of Nico Jackson being deployed as a LW? 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️
  19. Makes no sense. Would suggest Guiu would have to go out on loan, I take it? Otherwise we go from having not enough strikers to too many. Why not just forget Omorodion, keep Guiu here with the first team to learn and get valuable minutes here and there, and get Osimhen as our main man…
  20. Unless Alvarez has straight up told us that he isn’t interested in coming here and want to play in sunny, warm Spain it is criminal that we may very well buy Omorodion from Atleti whilst financing their move for the guy we should be after ourselves.
  21. We’re totally going to buy Omorodion, ffs. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ As promising as Guiu has looked in preseason, why are we now going to bring in someone with the same profile? A young, raw, powerful #9 who is still a couple of years away from being the finished article. It’s just fucking baffling. And I think this is 100% the club who are obsessed with him rather than Maresca. They see him exactly as they do with the other wonderkids we’ve bought. A guy who will become a £100m player down the road. The problem is WE NEED A FINISHED ARTICLE STRIKER NOW, not 2-3 years from now.
  22. Even I won’t defend them if we spunk some ridiculous sum on this guy. Really don’t understand why we aren’t doing the blindingly obvious Lukaku + cash swap for Osimhen even if I might not be super high on him. It’s one of the biggest no brainer deals ever.
  23. As anyone here knows, I wasn’t high on us signing Osimhen either. But….i certainly don’t want him going to fucking Arsenal. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ Think he’ll score for fun in their setup.
  24. Right. You offer those 3 in particular to literally ANY of the other Big 6 clubs and they’d have them without hesitation in a split second. Yes, including City & Arse. Likewise Gusto & Palmer. Most would gladly have Nico Jackson as a rotation option as well. I’ve said this before, but Clearlake thus far have done more good than bad easily. Koulibaly, Sterling, and perhaps soon we can definitively put Mudryk and Disasi down as flops. But the positive signings far outweigh those in my eyes. And we haven’t even seen close to the best of any of them. You go and ask Liverpool supporters how they’re liking their owners right now. Zero signings and none look close. At least our ownership is super ambitious about constructing a future top team. They definitely do some stupid things here and there but they’re trying to better the club.
