The club clearly thought that we couldn’t just wait another year for a striker. We couldn’t go another whole season just hoping Timo or Kai would transform into a consistent, world class goal scorer.
-
For those asking why we even bought him in the first place, what were the alternatives at the time? Just coming off a CL win the club (rightly) figured we needed 1 last world class piece up top to complete our team. We were never going to pay the £175m or whatever it was PLUS mega wages for Haaland last summer and Tuchel/the club probably didn’t feel it was worth the risk to sign a kid like Vlahovic who was still a big risk at the time. We wanted a striker in their prime years. Lukaku was coming off of a top season and had connections to the club already. It all made sense at the time. There wasn’t really any obvious long term alternative.

It’s like he had a checklist of every terrible thing a player could say if he was trying to force his way out of a club. Wonder if the Bridge will boo him this weekend?
-
We will struggle even against bottom half sides without our two wingbacks. I seriously don’t know how we salvage this season unless we buy this month. And talk of recalling loanees doesn’t fill me with confidence either. These players already weren’t good enough (Kennedy, Baba, Emerson). And the youth players like Sterling aren’t ready for a team fighting for and in the CL. Extremely difficult position for the club because there’s zero chance they ever planned on doing anything significant in January after how amazing we looked until the last month. We looked like an absolute machine that didn’t need anything. Now we are decimated and in danger of free fall. But clubs who panic buy in January can really screw themselves by overpaying for average players. Very anxious to see what we do.

Jeez. I didn’t think the initial comments were that bad. But the full quotes are straight up as bad as a player can possibly make. Just an absolute slap in the face to not only our club but to all the supporters as well. We need to sell him back to Inter this summer and make a move for Haaland if possible. What a shitshow.
-
Comments don’t seem bad at all after a cleaner translation. He’s not really having a go at Tuchel, just basically saying things haven’t quite gone as he expected so far and that he will get his head down and work. Which he has done these past few games. The comment about the system we play is interesting, though. Reading between the lines it sounds as though he figured (like many here did, myself included) that we would play a 2 striker system like he did at Inter. Perhaps that was one of the main things TT spoke with him about to convince him to leave such a great situation in Italy. “Come to Chelsea and partner Werner/Havertz and you’ll slot straight in comfortably” or something to that effect. I’m not sure he expected to come in and be the traditional, old school target man who is kind of starved for chances like he was early in the season. Injuries and COVID have totally fucked that stuff from happening all season.
-
Yeah, after things eventually got stale at previous stops, not a few months after making a £100m move.
-
I’m gonna guess the translation was ever so slightly off. Rom is an intelligent guy so I don’t think he’d say something so stupid.
-
Another winger who is awesome once in a while but extremely disappointing more often than not. In other words, the Chelsea Special. The only wide attacker we should be thinking about is Chiesa next summer. And he’s probably impossible.
-
Reece James’s injury sounds serious. So it’ll be Alonso and Pulisic (who has looked like a fish out of water there) as wingbacks for the long term unless we buy someone. That’s the stuff of nightmares when you see our fixture list this coming month. We could very realistically go into utter free fall.
-
Rest Jorginho for the next 2 matches, btw. Go with Kante and hope Kova plays himself into form. Or see if Saul can build upon his promising last couple of appearances. We’re going to need to shore up the midfield if we are to have any chance of masking all these defensive injuries.
-
With the players available, seriously, what is there to be optimistic about? How are we going to win games and consistently perform with Alonso, Azpi, CHO, Pulisic, and woefully out of form attackers? It’s going to come down to hoping clubs like Arse, Spuds, WH, United etc take points off each other while we scrape and claw to tread water somehow, some way. Just trying to rack up ugly 1-0’s however way possible.
-
Both starting wingbacks out, heartbeat of our defense Silva out, Jorginho running on fumes and dead on his feet, Havertz and Werner seemingly fell off the face of the earth, and not a single attacking player in form. Our best hope is that Spuds, Arse, and United just continue to drop points like we do. Because we are a broken team.
-
It died the moment City went ahead.
-
If Brighton were comfortably the better team against us, what will an angry, motivated Liverpool do after losing in embarrassing fashion to Leicester? We’re in complete survival mode now to try to stay in the top 4.
-
Of fucking course. And that wasn’t a foul on Mount, either.
-
This is actually a joke now. Jorginho is dead on his feet. Literally may as well not be in the pitch.
-
Feels like it’s been 5 hours since we’ve even caused the Brighton defense a slight worry.
-
How are we going to survive going forward?
-
This is embarrassing. ONE man just DESTROYING our whole midfield.
-
This is worse than Everton. We’re making Brighton look like Liverpool from a couple of years ago.
-
My word. This is BY FAR the worst over ever seen Kova and J5 look. Kova is usually imperious in possession. One of the safest dribblers in world football. He looks like Bambi on ice today!
-
CHO is trash, man. And we as a team are getting destroyed by Brighton at home.
-
TAKE JORGINHO OFF
-
We are allowing Bissouma to literally do WHATEVER he wants in midfield. There is nobody even close to him. Get fucking Kante on, ffs.
