Even as an American, baseball is a sport I don’t follow closely at all. But what I do know is that the Cubs basically had everything come together during a magical run during that 2016 season. They had a team full of young star players who they developed themselves and they had the best GM (sporting director equivalent) who helped them build through scouting and analytics. Then, from what I understand, after they won it all and broke their 100+ year title drought the Rickett’s family hasn’t spent the necessary money to keep the team competitive since and have sold off all those star talents. Now the Cubs are back to irrelevance and their fans really dislike the owners. As I’ve said before, I think a Ricketts owned Chelsea closely resembles Arsenal under Kroenke this past decade. Spending frugally and only doing so once there’s major fan outrage. Doing just enough to keep us competitive near the top but not spending what’s needed to get us where we want to be which is fighting for titles. Plus on top of the shitty on-pitch stuff I’ve mentioned, you have the family’s Trump/right wing connections. Of those we know are shortlisted this would be the worst easily.

It really fucking sucks that many of these highly talented and highly sought after talents are likely sorting out their summer moves and getting things agreed behind the scenes right now. But due to our ownership situation we’re probably being left behind because there’s so much uncertainty. The likes of Tchoameni, Dembele, and other guys who are certain to move we may miss out on because of these damned sanctions.

So the fourth “mystery bidder” is Steven Pagliuca who co-owns the Boston Celtics and is chairman at Bain Capital. I don’t know much about him but I am a little familiar with Bain who are a colossal investment firm. And of course, another with a connection to right wing politicians here in America… 😒

Ricketts must have been mighty convincing in their sales pitch, sadly. Probably because of their experience with stadium renovation. Having the atmosphere and feeling around the club in a toxic state from day 1 under a new owner would just be depressing. Really hope these people choosing realize this.

Another bonus with Boehly is that I think he’ll want to make a nice initial splash to win the supporters over and prove his dedication to maintaining our current level. So if he wins the bid I think we’ll be in for a very nice summer. And hopefully our business starts with locking down Rüdiger and Tuchel to long deals.

Losing Rüdiger in a free alone would be horrible. Losing him for free to a direct rival who he instantly and dramatically improves would be a sackable offense. I’d like to think that Toni has built up such a good relationship with the fans that he’d never consider going to a rival PL club. But if United offer an insane salary and signing-on fee he may be tempted. I’ll be absolutely livid if that’s allowed to happen.

I feel like there will be an explosion of anger and protests if Ricketts wins out. Surely, surely those choosing are aware of that, right? They would not only be highly controversial off the pitch but a disaster off it by being tight with their money. Imagine putting Tuchel in the position of having to answer questions about the racist family of the brand new owner in day 1. So in other words, Declan Rice has Harry Kane’d himself by signing that super long contract. He’s going nowhere until his contract expires. Even when he’s down to his final year he’ll only be 25 so WH will still have no desire to sell their best player for cheaper than £100m. Any young footballer who agrees to a contract longer than like 3 years these days is a gigantic idiot.

With those racist comments from one of the Rickett’s family member in the last I wonder if we’d instantly see fan protests if he wins the bidding. That would be hugely embarrassing to them…
