I’m sure the darling of last seasons transfer window Calafiori is delighted they’ve just signed a carbon copy of him.
-
Someone make this make sense. Why tf would we get this kid from Brighton on loan AND Fermín? This guy is already unlikely to play much. Getting Fermín in addition means he may never play. What is our club doing? Almost everything we’ve done this summer up until this week has looked good. Like we finally turned a corner with our recruitment. Now we are looking like the chaotic shitshow that we did that first summer under Clearlake.
-
But again, Ornstein said we wanted Fermín who would’ve cost about the same as Xavi supposedly.
-
Okay fine, but then why not use the €60m it was reportedly going to cost and throw that money at an actual established, quality alternative? How do we go from a really good player from Barca to a kid who Brighton don’t even want? It’s the equivalent of going to buy a Ferrari, the dealership saying sorry that one’s not for sale, and then going and leasing a Toyota Prius instead. Like wtf is this?
-
Btw, why would Ornstein have dropped that report about us trying for Fermín López if we had no cash? And why haven’t we heard anything about why that move didn’t happen and we instead have to settle for a loan of a Brighton kid?
-
Don’t think he’d struggle that much for playing time if Maresca is going to play 2 strikers frequently.
-
As a few other have said, we may as well keep Jackson here if all we’re going to get is £12m and no obligation to buy. Do we really need that £12m so badly? Especially if George goes too?

Look at the way Liverpool and City have defended to start the season. Shambolic from both of them. Neither is exactly going to be prime Mourinho Chelsea throughout this season. But what Liverpool will have is an outrageous array of attacking options one they inevitably sign Isak. So while yes, we have serious question marks about our defense and keeper, had we made the right attacking signing I truly do think we could’ve mounted a title challenge. We wouldn’t have had enough to actually win it but at least fight for it.
-
I’m almost past being angry now. I’m more numb. Genuinely felt like with 1 more top attacking signing we could’ve become a serious threat at the top of the table and in the UCL. Now it feels like our ceiling will be 4th.
-
On the one hand, you always want your best player on the pitch whenever possible. But on the other it may actually benefit us tomorrow in this particular match because Fulham’s game plan would’ve obviously revolved around stopping Palmer at all costs. We’re now much more difficult for them to prepare for because of Maresca’s lineup flexibility.
-
He’s basically a like for like swap for KDH. Except this season we don’t have the Conference League to give someone like this a bunch of minutes to.
-
Watching his highlights and you can see there’s a super talented young kid there. But is he Chelsea first team ready? The huge allure of Xavi and Fermín was that they are fully established, ready to go day 1 players who can come in and take us up a level from the off. They are elite “between the lines” killers. So how do you go from that profile to someone like Buonotte who is basically a learner driver?
-
Reading these Romano and Jacobs tweets, this reminds me exactly of the Amougu transfer last winter window. Getting some random kid in and just keeping him warm until he can go to Strasbourg next window/summer. Will never see the pitch.
-
Like Chelsea YouTuber Younes just said, this HAS to be all because we couldn’t move Jackson for a huge fee. The UEFA penalty has fucked up our plans. A loan for a kid who will almost surely be given the same treatment by Maresca as Felix or Nkunku. Will never play.
-
From Simons to Fermín to a random kid who Brighton don’t even care to keep around?
-
Why? Just why? Why waste money on yet another young kid who plays in that position when we’ve got Quenda coming in next summer and are now loaded with young wingers?
-
Looking that way unless some team swoops in for Jackson with a huge offer. Btw, what’s going on with Tyrique George? Felt like something was happening last week with Roma and we’ve heard nothing since. Surely he HAS to go with Garnacho now here.
-
Hopefully we get a briefing from all the reliable guys today about who it is we’re going for. Or if we even will at all. Like an update on whether Fermín is keen to leave or not.
-
Palmer out of the England squad due to his injury. So that surely means he’s missing this match as well. Strangely, Trev was left out of the squad too despite him being so impressive lately. Hope that’s not because of an injury.
-
Wharton will cost twice what Xavi does when he eventually leaves Palace. Definitely not a cheaper alternative.
-
Now THIS would be pure idiocy. Another tiny teenager when we’ve already got so many on our books in these attacking areas.
-
Yeah, Wharton is the kind of midfielder you replace Enzo with if he were ever sold. He’s a pure CM who controls the tempo of the game from deeper. For months now we’ve been told that we want a more advanced, attacking midfielder.
-
Yeah, I see the tweets on my feed. It’s just laughable to me. Not only does he not play the same position as Xavi or Fermín, but he’s someone who Palace would surely demand Baleba money for.
-
Lmao! Oh, come on. Amazing midfield talent but he’s a #8 who plays more centrally.
-
If it’s not Xavi and it’s not Fermín because he doesn’t want to leave Barca, I’m really scratching my head here. As I said last night, Rogers feels like he’d be out of the question this late in the window. So what other high quality #10 types are even available at this point? Who’s going to want to sell their key attacking player with no time to replace them?
