Rogers is a pretty different profile to Xavi & Fermín Lopez. Those two are super technical, tidy, Pep/Barca prototypes. Whereas Rogers is all about pace, power, and athleticism. I would’ve suggested we keep an eye on Paqueta as a more realistic fallback option but he’s far too old for our board.
-
Everyone in the replies to that tweet saying Rogers but the thought of Villa selling him with mere days left in the window seems far fetched. Unless Jackson goes the other way…
-
One last Hail Mary for Xavi tomorrow or nothing it’s looking like. Convincing Fermin to leave his beloved boyhood club was always going to be a massive uphill battle. Unless there’s some random, completely out of the blue Ornstein bomb in the final couple of days.
-
At least we should finally have complete clarity around Xavi tomorrow one way or another. He ain’t gonna wait around twiddling his thumbs in London all the way to the end of deadline day. If we don’t put in offer in within the next 24 hours he’s going to Spuds. At least we’ll have some finality.
-
Unless Villa or some big club completely out of the blue suddenly jump in it looks like Jackson’s options for a permanent move have dried up. We’ve priced him so high that everyone called our bluff. If it’s true that Jackson needs to go permanently in order for us to make any signing post Garnacho then I don’t see it at the moment. Him going out on loan may not be enough for us.
-
Ben Jacobs saying Barca want €60m whilst the Spanish sources saying Barca are adamant about keeping him and would only sell for €90m. Are Barca still in registration trouble? Can they really afford to turn down €60m?
-
Is he? Maresca seems to like highly technical players and we play against low blocks and buses quite often. Garnacho is not very effective in those matches. At his best for United he was a solid weapon as a counter attacking threat where he can use his pace and energy to run in behind teams. How often are we going to be pinned back and playing on the counter?
-
🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️ At least we didn’t pay £50m. If Garnacho flops whoever pushed for this signing should be sacked.
-
That’s surely Jackson to Bayern then.
-
Pretty murderous draw for us, ngl.
-
Working on a deal all summer, convincing the player to turn down lots of big clubs, agreeing personal terms and then losing out right at the end when your hated arch rival comes in and wraps up a deal within a day or two is absolutely a bottle job if this is what happens.
-
We’ve actually bottled it. To fucking SPUDS of all clubs. Had it been Arse or Bayern then fair play. Would’ve been annoying but those are 2 clubs which are on our level in terms of stature. But Tottenham?! Are you kidding me?
-
So it’s Xavi or nothing then. We ain’t paying close to that.
-
If Garnacho is our final signing I think we’re fighting with Newcastle and whoever else for 4th until the very last day again like last season. Without that last true difference maker in our attack which I think Xavi would be, we don’t have enough to push above 4th.
-
Understandable, but look at Liverpool currently. Their defense has looked comically poor so far this season but their attack can destroy anyone at any time. I’m mostly fine on going all in on the attack this window and addressing the GK and CB areas next window or next summer as needed.
-
Hard to understand. Especially with Palmer currently injured you’d think we’d want to aggressively push through Xavi who can slot in seamlessly into that position and hit the ground running. Instead, we’re prioritizing Garnacho who would surely be weeks away from being match ready even if he were signed today. He hasn’t played football in how long now? With no preseason?
-
Hasn’t been a peep about Fermín since the Ornstein tweet btw. If the Xavi deal was in jeopardy I’d expect to start seeing briefs that Fermín Lopez is the one we’ve wanted all along.
-
Guess we’ll find out very soon how determined Xavi has been about Chelsea and only Chelsea as has been reported time and again. Or whether he just got extremely annoyed/frustrated that we have been dragging this on for over a month with no movement and Spuds have turned his head. Convinced him that he’s the key to them becoming a top team or something.
-
He’ll go, but will it be on loan or for good is the question. Maybe that’s what Matt Law’s report is all about. Jackson could go to Bayern on loan but that likely means no money for Simons. But we could be slow walking things in hopes that Liverpool comes back in for Isak and Newcastle then use that cash for Jackson for big money. Then we can sign Xavi. The interesting situation is that Xavi is now in London trying to push through a move. Would he do that unless a move is imminent? And if a move is imminent can it actually be us as long as Jackson is here? Hopefully we get some clarity ASAP.
-
This is what I’d like to know. Can we proceed with both Garnacho AND Simons with just Nkunku going or will we also need to get a big fee for Jackson in order to sign the latter?
-
Unless it comes out that Fermín is like £20m cheaper than Xavi it makes no sense to go for him instead. Xavi has been desperate to join us all summer and we have terms in place. To walk away now when he is in London forcing things would be crazy.
-
This is my feeling. No sane player is going to choose Spuds over us if we are still pushing, surely.
-
Brother, could you imagine if after all this painful waiting and negotiating and reporting that “Nkunku is the key to Simons coming to Chelsea, once he is sold Xavi will immediately go to Chelsea,” that on the day we finally conclude a deal for Nkunku, Simons instead goes to a hated rival? 🤣🤣 SURELY not?!
-
The question is whether we’ll be able to sign both Garnacho and Xavi if it’s Nkunku sold and Jackson only loaned. Haven’t really seen any reporting on whether that’s doable.
-
United fans on RedCafe are desperately begging for the Garnacho deal to be cancelled because Amorim may be sacked and he’d have a way back into the team. 😂😂😂
