There are quite a few very solid midfielders out there. But I think Caicedo is the most ready made and least risky since he’s been killing it in the PL already.
-
Keepers like Onana and Maignan are really great shot stoppers but I wish we’d go after a keeper who’s a superb distributor as well. Onana looks very mediocre in that aspect. Diogo Costa looks unbelievable with his feet like Ederson or Allison but would apparently cost near Kepa money which we obviously will never do again.
-
We paid £72m for Havertz. We’ll be making a significant LOSS, not a profit.
-
I don’t blame any lesser known players from other smaller leagues jumping at the chance to go to a farmers league like France. A dude probably making relative peanuts at Sporting going on to making hundreds of thousands per week at a club in an amazing city where you’re essentially guaranteed the league title and UCL football every season is an easy choice. It’s when actual world class players take the pussy route and go there that bothers me.
-
Even after Kai hasn’t really lived up to his potential since joins us that feels very cheap indeed. Just €50m for a 24 year old UCL winner who is Germany’s starting forward? Who can potentially still realize said potential and become a top player at some point? I’d keep him if that’s all Madrid will offer. The minimum we should ask for is €65m. At least get somewhat close to what we paid for him. As we well know since we need a new striker there aren’t many options out there. So Madrid don’t have many other players to look to since they’re clearly biding their time for Mbappe.
-
Both players we should be closely monitoring as well. Unlike us, looks like Liverpool can get their incoming business done quickly because they don’t have 12 players they have to bin off.
-
We should all thank our lucky stars that we pushed hard and refused to take no for an answer with Enzo when we did. Because after the season we had we would have ZERO chance at him now and he’d be holding up the shirt of a PL rival right now instead. We’re lucky he’s so good that we can plug in 3-4 different midfield targets on our list and be happy. We just have to sign that player quickly before they’re all gone.
-
Very, very good signing. Jealous they’re getting him as I think he’s top class.
-
I just have a bad feeling that we’re going to be stuck using several bang average players that we all want sold next season. LikemGallaghernstarting in our midfield. 🤢🤢🤢
-
Whatever we decide to do needs to happen rapidly. Ugarte and Rice will likely be off the table THIS week. If Arse spunk £100m on Rice I can’t imagine a notoriously penny pinching club like them are going to also be able to spend mega money on Caicedo. So our competition for him may “only” be Liverpool and United.
-
Those two would be excellent. But again, Caicedo will be an absolute bitch to sign since Brighton are such tough negotiators. What’s stopping them asking for £90m if Rice will cost £100m or more? Or tell us that if Colwill isn’t involved in some way they won’t even come to the table? He may be just as tricky to pry from them as Rice is from WH.
-
Cucu and KK are probably why they’re suddenly cheaping out. They got burned so badly on some of these big buys. But coming off a shockingly terrible season is when you DON’T want to tighten the purse strings.
-
I just feel like convincing Caicedo to choose us will be even more difficult than Ugarte. He’s wanted by ALL of the big PL clubs.
-
I’m not devastated as if Ugarte is some world class superstar or anything. I just think that in terms of pure, purpose built DM’s he was the best available to perfectly slot into our midfield and compliment Enzo’s style. Players like Lavia and Caicedo are excellent midfielders but they are more roaming CM’s than pure DM’s. Caicedo is like Kante in that he travels all over the pitch. Ugarte was perfect because he did one job and one job only and did it superbly.
-
I think it’s going to be a real issue for any player that’s also wanted by other big clubs. Why come to Chelsea and have loads of incentives and stipulations in your contract when you can go to an equally big club and just get a huge wage with no stipulations? This is the kind of thing that could really hamper us in the market.
-
This sounds like Mendes playing Chelsea to get a much higher wage offer from elsewhere. And it worked. If we now miss out on Caicedo as well we’re in trouble. Rice is off the table, Ugarte off the table. We have to get Caicedo now.
-
Unreal. From done one way to done the other. Missed out on our #1 DM target. What a great start to the summer.
-
I think we’ll see the real Mudryk with a full preseason and proper coach. Expecting big things from him.
-
Mudryk, Sterling, Madueke, Nkunku, new striker. Plus Broja coming back from injury I guess.
-
Havertz has the perfect physique to suit the PL. His issue has been that he has never really used it to his advantage. He has always been kind of a finesse player trapped in a big body. He doesn’t throw his weight around or use his power at all really. And you very rarely saw him attacking the box aerially like he did in Germany. He almost reminds me of a kid who had a sudden growth spurt and doesn’t know how to use their new body.
-
It just feels like time has flown by with Havertz. Like he just arrived 18 months ago or something.
-
I don’t think any of the players we’re going to sell will make us depressed in the years ahead that we let them go like Salah or De Bruyne. Kova, Havertz, and Mount are all very good players who I’m sure will be solid for their new clubs but I don’t think any of them will suddenly reach this superstar level that we never saw in a Chelsea shirt. We’ve seen top form Mount and top form Kova here many times. And while those levels were very high I don’t think they’ll be that difficult to replace. Mase isn’t going to turn into a 20 goal per season player at Man United and Kova isn’t going to learn how to shoot at City at the age of 30. Havertz is the only one out of the massive list of players we’ll let go that could come back to sting a bit, imo. If he ever realizes his true potential he can become a beast. But I don’t think he’ll reach truly “my God, I can’t be,I eve we sold him” status.
-
Kind of annoying that we’re seeing moves quickly materializing for players a lot of our fans actually like but we’re seeing zero movement whatsoever for the likes of Pulisic, Ziyech, CHO etc who everyone wants out of the club.
-
He’s much more dangerous around the box, for sure. But I’m not sure a classic #10 like him makes sense in our team.
-
Very nice player but not the profile we need.
