calculatingInfinity got a reaction from Fernando in Chelsea 1-1 Arsenal
Really good performance all things considered, and a good result too really. Shame Fofana had that mistake at the goal, but oh well. Should have scored with Joao Pedro earlier as well, who was way too slow to take his shot. But yeah mistakes happens, and they were minimal considering the team played a man down for so long.
Have to say though, that challenge by Caicedo was extremely bad. He is such a good player, so really sucks missing him in this game and the next few ones. Maresca has built a great team and system here, hopefully he gets to keep developing it.

Destroyed PSG and Barcelona 3:0
Won against Liverpool last 2 games. Now being better than Arsenal with 10 men. It's official. We can absolutely play everyone and be better, time to start to dream big.

It's very easy to be frustrated with the result but you have to put it into context
Ten me for a long time, the red card issue is a serious problem and something we need to be looking at
I love how we grafted off the ball and battled for everything

Well put.
But I am sure the Maresca crowd will be back as soon as a few not great results comes, despite the clear improvements. I understand the frustrations in the moment like against United or Sunderland, being irrational and angry is a part of being a football fan at times..... But gotta also look at the big picture, and luckily it seems like Todd and Egbhali are too for once.

No doubt, he's made his share of mistakes - the game against United is the last one where he got things terribly wrong.
But he seems to be getting a tune out of this squad despite dealing with a ton of injury problems. The decisions that went wrong are more on the board level than on the manager.
He's been making a lot of changes but it could well be a directive from the medical team since players didn't get pre-season. Let's wait and see how Arsenal goes. Unlike Barca who were playing their high line, Arsenal will have a mature and solid defense.

Because we are a team in progress that is still but finish.
This is how I feel arsenal are with arteta. And how many seasons it took to get to here?
I feel like arsenal are the real deal now, they have built a very good team in every department.
And the thing there was progress season by season which is what matters most when building a team.

Funny thing is that he destroyed both Enrique and Flick. Two managers many of our fans cried for while making fun of 'Championship manager'.

Still a steady improvement to the team, month after month. There will be bumps on the road, but I am still very happy to see him at Chelsea.
Would love to see a proper world class center forward for him, and some better defenders of course, but that seems to just not be something the board is interested in ever buying again for Chelsea.

I dont wanna downplay him for Brazil, cause he has done well. But not like he is secured a starting spot there either.
He's a great talent and should play more and more for sure. But also quite clearly not all there tactically yet and imo nowhere near the first players on the team sheet (that should be a player like Caicedo). With both premier league, cup matches and CL, he will get plenty of football and some needed rest as well.

He'll play plenty of games between now and end of the season
Hopefully once Palmer is back, they can start forming a partnership and play some free flowing football!

We got zappacosta, Bakayoko, drinkwater.
Some of the worst buys under him.
I always said that he is good short term, will win us the title but not good long term in building a team.
I still rather stick with Maresca and the board for they are doing a good job in the mid all the way up.
They are just lacking in defensive side. Sigh if they will only sign a director that is good for that....

Maresca just doesn't take games seriously.
There's no better way to put it.
Yes he's analytical etc etc like any other coach but the way he approaches games makes it look like he's just chilling, managing, coaching the kids.
No seriousness and valuing points....
Conte was a beast in that sense.

I honestly think he is on level with Sarr and Disasi. But some of the older ones you mentioned... Yeah certainly worse. Michael Hector lmao

I know it's all doom and gloom right now, but dont be silly. Chelsea is way ahead of United despite the result and performance today.

Dreadful from Garnacho on that last Brentford goal.

Overall I’d give our window a 6.5 or 7 out of 10. Delap, João Pedro, and Hato are all excellent buys for me. We brought in Estevão who looks great already. Santos and Essugo look like they’ll be very useful. So in terms of beefing up our squad with quality depth we’ve done very well.
But the signings of Gittens, Garnacho, and Buononotte are very 50/50 and we won’t know if these are good buys for several months once we’ve seen them play a run of games. No new top keeper, no new top CB. Left ourselves dangerously thin up top after the Delap injury.
Most annoyingly, we KNEW that we needed 1 more difference making attacker and identified both Xavi & later Fermin to fill that role. But after getting every fan so excited we were hamstrung by being unable to sell Jackson.
So overall we bought decently, sold mostly extremely well, improved the squad but didn’t improve it enough, and still have some unresolved issues.
Not amazing, not poor. Just “pretty good” I would say.

The penalty incident with him, madueke and cole palmer was truly embarrassing.

Part of it is probably him being nothing more than ok, and missing more than any forward at Chelsea should.
Another part of it is probably his attitude and his dumb cards, whenever he gets frustrated. If it was to save the team, I think anyone could and would respect his many yellows and even red cards. But not when it's just for acting like a baby. Almost cost the club CL.

Yeah I wouldnt call him a nothing player. But 100% more of a... Future everton player, than a future Chelsea player.

Good to see Enzo finishing in CL, and even more reason to give him the trust and finances he deserves to improve the squad. It hasnt been perfect all season, far from it. But also has been some not so great conditions at times.
