I see Essien as the type of guy who wants to play for football , maybe im being deluded. Its a shame we wouldn't have even contemplated loosing Essien a couple of years back.

We all want CL football , but we shouldn't cry about not being in it next year. we need to re-build either way and it may be a blessing in disguise as we will have to work harder to get the talents we want. Instead of the scouts going "yeah that big name is good" im getting fed up with how much the CL is everything nowadays , id rather win the league , but that's me...

He looked promising at the start of the season , then a dip in form forced him out the team. Which he never got back in really , i agree with capriccioso that the money we would have to put up would not be worth the reward.

I think if he agreed to a 1 year extension that would be better option for him and the club. he could become our impact player. I see why the Club would want to let him go as he has only got maybe a couple of seasons left at the top of his game. never the less i for one will never forget what he has done for this Club arguably our best striker of all time. he has left a legacy here no one will forget!

We will see come May 19th. I am for one not getting my hopes up , so I am am trying to convince myself that the Europa won't be the end of us being a title challenging club. i for one would have not put all my eggs into the CL final , anything can happen in one game. But we must ask ourselves with a team that has had this much investment in the first place , should comfortably qualify for the CL , the AVB factor taken into account , was a mistake by the board and if we end up in the EL next year its there job to get us back to the top. I would not panic at one season in the EL alot of players should stick around thinking we will get back in the CL the issue will come if we turn out like Liverpool and fail to qualify year after year. But just look at Spuds and Newcastle , Newcastle signed great players on a low budget who wanted to play for a team that hasn't had European football in years. With Spuds they were in the EL this year and look good to qualify for the CL. I am old fashioned so its all about winning trophy's for me , its a pity on how much playing in the CL helps clubs in getting talent to join their teams. I think the main thing we need is a good manager and people around him to find the best players.

I agree that he should get the job if we do win both cups. But from Romans moves in the past sometimes there not logical , i think he would prefer a more experienced manager.

I still don't think he will get it even if we win both cups. I don't think Roman will trust him to lead the club forward. I think RDM has done a great job brining this group of players back together but long term i just don't see it..
