Marc Guehi: England defender completes move to Manchester City from Crystal Palace https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6977024/2026/01/19/marc-guehi-transfer-manchester-city-crystal-palace/ Manchester City have completed the signing of centre-back Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace. The Athletic reported last week that City were in the process of finalising an agreement to sign the England international in a package worth £20million ($26.8m) plus bonuses and a sell-on clause. Guehi was out of contract at Palace at the end of the season and could have left the club as a free agent when his contract expired on June 30. Guehi did not intend to his extend his contract at Selhurst Park and City appeared to be the only team that were prepared to make a deal to sign him in this window. The 25-year-old had appeared set to join Liverpool on deadline day in a £35m transfer in the summer, though Palace pulled out of the deal after failing to source an adequate replacement. Arsenal, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Liverpool were among the clubs expected to move for Guehi this summer, though defensive injuries at City brought their pursuit forward. Josko Gvardiol is out after undergoing surgery for a fracture tibia, Ruben Dias is sidelined with a hamstring issue while John Stones has been out since early December after sustaining a thigh injury. City recalled 20-year-old defender Max Alleyne from Watford earlier this month as extra cover. At his press conference on Friday, Crystal Palace head coach Glasner confirmed that Guehi was close to leaving the club. “A deal with Marc is in the final stages,” Glasner said. “I can’t confirm the club because it’s still not done, but it’s the final stages and the result is that Marc doesn’t play (against Sunderland) tomorrow for us.” Glasner also confirmed that he would be leaving the club at the end of the season for a “new challenge”. Guehi joined the club in July 2021 from Chelsea and has gone on to make 188 appearances for the club, being appointed captain ahead of the 2024-25 campaign and leading the team to its first major trophy in its history, lifting the FA Cup in May. The defender is City’s second signing of the transfer window after the arrival of forward Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth in a £62.5m move. By Sam Lee Manchester City Correspondent

Putting this in here instead of the Brentford thread because it shows Rosenior is not using a modified Maresca game plan and tactics, but truly his own ideas. Hopefully it becomes smoother moving forward.

I think in terms of pure talent and ability Yildiz is above everyone on this list other than Vini. I’d have him here in a heartbeat and don’t think he’d flop. I just don’t see any chance Juve entertain a sale nor do we have space for another winger currently.

🔵🗯Chelsea have offered Raheem Sterling to Napoli on a 6-months loan with a large part of the salary paid by CFC, which are recalling Paez and Fofana from the loans to have the possibility to give the english winger on loan. (@Skyitalia)

So who would you go for? Here is a semi repost of my fairly expansive list of remotely availabe right footed wingers. Semenyo is now gone and Rogers is not a true winger, he is more of an AMF or an old style inside left, but I do list him. I did not list Fermín López, as he very rarely plays at winger. Vinicius Junior (I think he perhaps leaves Real Madrid soon, but his salary demands will be crazy) Kenan Yıldız Morgan Rogers (as stated above, more of an AMF/inside left) Bradley Barcola Antoine Semenyo Rafael Leão Nico Williams (insane salary) Rodrygo Dani Olmo (turns 28yo in May) Yan Diomande Iliman Ndiaye Malick Fofana Dan Ndoye Jesús Rodríguez Assane Diao Ibrahim Mbaye Said El Mala Antonio Nusa Jean-Mattéo Bahoya Matías Fernández-Pardo

Need to get ourselves up the table from 13th. 2 points from avoiding play off places so we can do it! Just gotta win

yes if they offer at least what we paid for him I think we should sell

💣💥Real Madrid sources have said that Chelsea have given signs that they would be willing to sell Fernandez, but at the right price. “The midfielder’s future at Stamford Bridge is uncertain beyond this season, and Madrid have been monitoring the situation closely. “While some Chelsea players are considered untouchable, it is understood that the Argentina international is not entirely off-limits. “Sources suggest that initial exploratory talks have hinted, via intermediaries, that Chelsea could become open to a summer deal if their valuation is met. “The player joined Chelsea for £106.8million – so any transfer is going to become one of the most significant fees ever seen in La Liga.” (@DeanJones)

Well, what a good problem to have if we get Jacquet, and Sarr comes back from loan - if they are as good as people say! Plus Trev (for the experience) and Colwill. Injures and stacked fixture schedules are a fact of PL life so filling up the CB slots with great options is a must - Arsenal and City both did it and it has saved them both big time this season alone. Trev will be 27 this year and at this point I hope he becomes a career Chelsea guy, he clearly will be professional if and when he has to take on more of a squad role again, and what a great option he is in that regard - could hardly imagine a better CB depth player. What will potentially be a problem is Colwill if two star players emerge and his game time is at risk, he has always made it clear he will not tolerate anything other than being a guaranteed starter. And of course Acheampong, but maybe he will end up becoming a RB.

Levi will be like a new signing
-
they can go or at least keep chalobah and offload tosin, badi and disasi
-
🔵🗯There is growing expectation that both Chelsea defenders Trevoh Chalobah and Tosin Adarabioyo will either sign new deals or face the possibility of being sold. Levi Colwill’s recovery is progressing well and there is optimism he WILL feature later on this season’s campaign. (@NizaarKinsella) 🟢Chelsea are the latest superpower to track 17-year old Irish forward Michael Noonan as TSG Hoffenheim failed to reach the valuation of €2m set by Shamrock Rovers with initial bids. (via @irishexaminer) 💥Chelsea, Marseille and SL Benfica are closely monitoring the situation of 23-year old Feyernood right winger Anis Hadj Moussa. His agent Makram Naceur is acting as an intermediary in talks with interested clubs from Germany. (@SkySports)

I see he got early sub on Saturday so probably injured and won't play.

Looked like Maresca wasn't keen on him after the CWC. We also had to sell Veiga as for some reason he didn't get along with Maresca.
-
Simple, because of a idiot like Maresca who can't asses a player to save his life. Were talking about the same moron who picked Disasi over Chalobah initially, bought his player from Leicester and didn't know what to do with him after a month, playing players out of position, etc. I hate the board as much as anyone but with morons like Maresca here I wouldn't listen to what he wants either when he can't even asses his own squad. As for Chiesa, he didn't really failed Slot doesn't want to play him, Liverpool fans all crying he should play more because they can see the spark when he comes on. Yildiz is top class, I'd love us to get him but doubt it will happen, we might not even make CL next season in which case we can say goodbye to any chance, another is we probably have to sell Enzo to afford him given our spending issues.
-
I can’t for the life of me understand why we didn’t keep Sarr here in the summer. He looks tailor made for the Prem and way more suited than Badiashille or Tosin. Crazy decision that. Jury is still out on Yildiz. Would he cut it in the Prem? Chiesa hasn’t albeit post injury.

No way Juventus let him go unless we give them Enzo or something in return they need him to qualify for CL next season.
-
Yildiz has flop written all over him for me. But we need a LW so may as well give him a shot. Garnacho is pointless for me. Seen enough.
-
Yildiz was the player I hoped we'd sign in the summer for the left side
-
The more the better, almost all CBs need sold and replaced outside Colwill.
