Michael Essien

Not happy with this loan at all. First of all we needed him. Mikel's not gonna do and after the game last night..this 'Mikel-Lamps' doesn't works! Besides, Mereiles does nothing at all.

And there is absolutely no guarantee that Mourinho will keep him in his starting 11. Essien will be benched most of the times. Mourinho's gonna bring him only when RM plays clubs like Granada, Villarreal, Sociedad. So this transfer is doing no good to anyone. Why did RDM even agree on this stupid loan? :readthemessage:

I don't think it was a bad move, so long as they are playing his wages. Watching him play last season was a bit like watching a cripple trying to finish a marathon. The mind is willing, but the body isn't.

I agree. He did play that way, but what I am saying is the midfield's gonna look weak. :wank2:

Didn't Gourlay not say he wanted Essien, Cole and Malouda on long term deals by September after the CL final..... well looks like Essien won't be getting one now by the time hes been shipped out...

Ron also said we'd have two strikers scoring 30 goals a season. He sure talks a lot.

Can't really see Essien coming back to Chelsea after this. Either he gets a permanent move to Real Madrid if he succeeds there or we'll try shipping him out next summer. We wouldn't have loaned him out if we were planning to keep him for the future.

Madrid have an option to buy. 2 gripes i have with this.

1. Its lose-lose for us, if Mourinho finds a way to reproduce the old Essien, he will buy him.

2. Why on earth didn't we do a swap loan between Sahin and Essien? If not back to square one still.

Completely agree. Sahin would be very good here, possibly starter. And Im sure Mou would be for it, since he coached us before.

But overall, I dislike such moves, when you loan a player that will almost sure leave even if he performs great. Just waste of our own young players not playing because of that loanee. But if Sahin could be 'buyable', it would be great indeed.

Yes under usual circumstances i would not even consider such a move, but we already spent £80m and i think it was clear we weren't spending any more this term and Sahin would have solved so many short term issue's.

We could have had him for a season, then make the double pivot top priority next summer.

I agree with the second part but not the first. If the highly unlikely scenario off Essien coming back to form should occur, its by no means certain that he'll be sold. We aren't Arsenal, clubs can't sign our players unless we want to sell them.

Unless the clause is smallish, around 10-15 million or less. I hope we've left it out around the 25 million mark. If the former were the case then my entire post would be irrelevant.
