After every season update a player can increase his skill, although once they reach 26/27 years old they won't improve any more.

• Buy for the long-term and pay more for young talent
• Buy short-term players on the cheap, which is what I do.

I've done both.

You need a mix of the two, if your teams average age is below or over 25 they will only play at 80%.

Okay who has Fake Madrid here?, okay look you cannot be beat... you just can't be beat. Seriously first i play offensivly, you beat me 2-0 then i put 5 defenders back, as well as midfielders playing defensivly and you still beat me 2-0. What the hell... fake madrid is still unbeaten. Then again i was never good at manager games, i suck on soccer manager. But why do my players suck?, like i only have one player who has 7 rating, i looked at everyone elses players in my league and they have at least 3 players with 7 rating. That's not exactly balanced is it?, or do you need to train your players or something?.

Indulge into the transfer market. You can get a lot of good players for cheap. Just see where your weakness is and replace those 3-4 skill players with 6 skill players. 5 skill players are useful too when on form. I don't think 7 skill players are needed right now, of course they help, but good tactics and a 6 skill team is good enough to beat anyone.

You should buy and aim for the following:

• One 7 skill goalkeeper. (I like to have a strong goalkeeper, gives me more confidence when taking risks.)
• Three 6 skill defenders.
• Three 6 skill midfielders.
• Two 6 skill forwards.

All that won't cost much either, I'd say each 6 skill player can be bought for 150,000 to 300,000. Some more or even less depending on age. That should be your starting point, then as you get more money you upgrade the 6 skill players to 7 and so on. It's my first year too, but I think that's the best game-plan for beginners. There might be better strategies out there from more experienced players, but I think this will work well for me.

The idea is to use the transfer market to buy some young players but also some older players, like what Terminator X was saying. But when it comes to games, you need to change your line-up and tactics. You can buy tactics reports from your opponent's last game and see what formation/tactics that they used to get an idea of what their formation is, and you set up in respect to that. You have to use your tactics cleverly... ie. pick players to mark and so on.

God my team came from being in A top 3 looking to challenge kildare blues for a promotion place to scraping at the bottom of mid table. I knew i sucked xDx.
