Yeah exactly.

One thing, we on here, have in common (which is rare) is our backing of Carlo. We may not agree he's the best man for the job, but we all recognise he must be allowed to stay and turn this around, till 2012 or till he walks.

'In football, usually we say when everything is okay the players are fantastic and when everything is wrong it is the manager who is not so good,'
Well that goes both ways really.

As a matter of fact, some regulars of this forum insist that Carlo won us the double and the players are at fault for the current situation.

Yeh agree thats a bit odd.Takes two and all

Carlo fault really for same ole team selection sending subs on mega late.Players for their piss poor attitude and ablity to not run or pass the ball to the right team!! And the defending at times being like the red sea just parting randomly letting them through

Our key players have never truly recovered from champions league defeats. Liverpool ghost goal, Barca 09, Moscow. Especially Drogba, our key players have what Barcelona will never have to worry about, Bad Attitude.

a complex mental state involving beliefs and feelings and values and dispositions to act in certain ways.

It's not Carlo's fault.

Very good point. Especially when the whole chemistry of your team relies on players who've witnessed all these events; Lampard & Drogba (Terry too, but he hasn't been so bad). That's why vs Inter we played so cautiously, the did not want all those painful emotions coming back because of a lapse in concentration.. Yet in over thinking, that very thing happened.

It's a good point certainly. Which is why fresh players are essential.

Player psychology is a no-go area for fans, because the subject is far too expansive and it's something we can never truly prove. Although the recent crisis is all the proof you need imo.

That psychological UCL thing will just stop us from winning the UCL, they've won the league 3 times recently so they should be more relaxed in the prem.

The lack of form in the league is really about not having a fully fit first 11 throughout the season, lack of creativity and a cutting edge and a settled team.

2 was with Mourinho, and before moscow & barca 09.

The other was the year Ronaldo left united, and even then it went down to the last game of the season! lmao.

True but they all feel pressure to win the UCL, they won the league last season, they've been there, done it. They've never won the UCL and that means that even against copenhagen, we'll struggle. We haven't been convincing in any Champions League game for a long time. Specially in the KO rounds. Even when we're flying in the league, banging goals in for fun, a UCL match brings a completely different mindset on certain players. Even DD has witnessed those horrible moments except 2004.

2004 Semi, 2-0 up, cruising. Monaco get a handball goal before h/t, game changes, match ends 2-2. All because of a handball goal from Ibarra. People forget that.

2005 Semi, from handball goal to ghost goal and that Gudjohnsen miss at the end

2006 round of 16, very dubious Del Horno red card helped us lose to Barca

2007 semi, Bloody pens and DD misses a sitter from under the bar...

2008 final, hit the woodwork twice, goes to pens, miss penalty to win, then lose

2009 semi, denied at least 3 clear penalties, concede in the last minute to get KO'd

2010 round of 16, shoulda had 2 pens for blatant pulling in the area from corners, but tbh we were 2nd best because of the psychology of previous years.

2011, You cannot be surprised the players go into a UCL match thinking "WTF next!" We'll get through the copenhagen game probably but definitely get screwed or bottle it later on.
