Well, Hip Hop is such a diverse genre, I'm pretty sure you can't narrow it down to a contestation and social critique even though most of what was hip hop in the early 90's actually stemmed from it.

J Cole's 2014 Forest Hill Drive is v gd imo.

Yr opinions?

It's like a album/mixtape-hybrid, largely down to an absence of manufactured singles and the generic album formula's that usually plague them. Cole kept it relatively safe though, no moments of madness lyrically or sound-wise 'bar one line', which is a slight let down for me; fully justified though, considering where he's at after 1 and 2.

03' Adolescence, Fire Squad, G.O.M.D & Apparently stand out for me, it's not really that type of album though. On Born Sinner.. Villuminati & Let Nas Down stood out like sore thumbs from the rest, which wasn't a good thing. On FHD the rhymes, production and hooks all pack a punch and sync well together, they feel like one organism.

I think it's his best album yet. Some songs really caught my attention, unlike on his first 2 albums.

I thought it was his best album yet. Solid from beginning to end, personal, lyrical, but he wasn't trying too hard. I really don't like "Let Nas Down" I felt like he was trying too hard. I heard J Cole for the first time the day The Warm Up dropped, this album is what I expected, he reached his potential with this album, imo.

What do you think of Big K.R.I.T's new album? I think it's one of the 3 best albums of the year.
