I picked up a 320kbps copy of Snoop Dogg's debut album, Doggystyle. I forgot how good Snoop used to be, I haven't listened to the album in full in four years or so. He was really fucking immense in 1993. What happened to him? He went from way up there, to the commercialised and shit artist we know today, changing his persona every five seconds.

Here's a fun trend. He's gotten worse every time he modified his name. His best material, by far, was back when he was Snoop Doggy Dogg. Then he dropped the Doggy and the quality declined a bit as the commercialism ramped up. Then there was the disgrace that was Snoop Lion, and now, he's Snoopzilla.

The Snoop Lion phase was utterly awful, truly cringe inducing stuff. He's always had a massive interest in Jamaican music - Doggystyle is filled to the brim with dancehall and reggae references - but interest doesn't translate to talent.
