CHOULO19 24,332
Apparently he gave a post match interview to a local German TV station in fluent German. He was born in Switzerland; one of their three official languages is German.
Liquidator 5,176
I really don't understand people saying 'He should leave now while he is on a high and he can be remembered as a legend'. How shallow minded do you have to be? The guy was one of our greatest ever midfielders before he even took up the managers job. We then go and win the FA Cup and beat Napoli and Barcelona in incredible fashion before beating Bayern and winning our first ever Champions league. Would one potentially bad season really ruin his reputation as a legend after all he has done? Only if you are silly.

Laylabelle 9,535
We need to find a Manager who we'll give a chance to,wont take crap from players and will last longer then half a season!

Kostas 1,468
Really don't understand how he cannot get the jobI can. The fact that he won the CL does not mean we should overlook the fact that he never went through the hiring stage (his CV was never judged or considered) and that no talks between the club and him in March extended over that 3 month period.I know that over-analyzing anything that was said in the night of the final is very risky but his interview in the mixed zone gave me the impression that he's not staying. Of course any possible parting will be presented as mutual or even sought by RDM for personal reasons (not that he cannot take a long break from football to enjoy his achievement). chealsist 23
Roma want big name in bench. Italian coaches sometimes fail in transfers of player.
Kostas 1,468
No coach (apart from someone like Mourinho/Wenger) will be held responsible by the club for transfers.Abramovich wants a "big name"? Do you people think he's retarded or a 11 year old who inherited billions? Why is such bullshit repeated all the time? Such a simplistic logic does not apply to any 1st division club in all the big leagues of Europe. The club may want someone proven, which is understandable considering the annual investment being made.
not a big fan 9
All fans are grateful to him, except for maybe only some hardcore AVB fanboys, however not necessarily everyone would want him to become the new manager during this important transition period when Chelsea have to start putting together a new squad capable of not only winning but also winning with style (not that I care about aesthetics as long as we keep winning but this is Roman's ultimate goal). In order to achieve this goal, the club would need to sever the ties with the influential, defensive-oriented old guards brought in by Mourinho but after all that has happened this season I think RDM has become too emotionally attached to them to do so. Moreover, he seems to be more of a motivational type of manager than a tactical/technical one. The board haven't appointed him as full-time manager yet probably because they have taken those points into account.

Santiago. 1,500
It's a quite interesting decision. RDM's main factor was his motivation towards the players. He has shown weaknesses in his tactics and that is what is bothering Roman for the fact that we were lucky this year. What will happen this summer is a mystery. watcherfromafar 11
Bottom line ought to be who is the best going forward. Don't honestly know enough about it to say RDM isn't it. Is there a better alternative?

capriccioso 2,545
Who are the other candidates as the media have speculated? Capello and Pep, right? There are problems with both. Fabio is getting on now, though he would have the undying support of Terry and be popular with the other English players as well. He commands a lot of respect with his CV and personality and I would support his appointment had he been perhaps 5 years younger. Pep's style of football is not suited to any Premiership team except perhaps Arsenal, he would be a disaster in the short term at least and Roman would boot him out.I've also seen Rafa Benitez's name being thrown around, would describe that appointment better than words. Given the alternatives, Di Matteo staying would be the best thing for us. A one year deal, so even if he underachieves he can honourably resign and still be considered a Chelsea legend rather than getting sacked. It would also give us room to maneuver around the market, perhaps even bring back Jose.
not a big fan 9
Given that Gourlay has said they will take time to decide who the next manager will be, I think it's likely they want to settle for someone who will excel at the Euro with attacking football. It's probably going to be Germany's Joachim Loew.
capriccioso 2,545
The thing with Löw is that he's awful at club management. His record with his previous clubs leaves a lot to be desired:Appointing an international manager to a club job is rarely successful. We have experienced that before with Scolari. capriccioso 2,545
He's barely been with the same club over a year ffs!He also had a run of close to two years with one win to his name. Only if Di Matteo and Capello reject us would I want him to be the manager. International football is very different to club football, you only have to manage about 10 games a season and most of those are against countries like Azerbaijan or San Marino.
