Brilliant toss for Cook to win. Trent Bridge pitches are very, very dry, and obviously there has been some very hot weather in the Midlands over the last week or so. Perfect bowling conditions for the team bowling last, which is why Finn has been preferred to Bresnan, as he'll bang the ball in, using his extra height.

All things said, going well for England, when you consider these overcast conditions are ideal for swing bowlers - 98 for the loss of two wickets (Cook, 13; Root, 30) at lunch.

Joe Root is gonna be a big name in test cricket in the coming years. I said it when i saw him making his debut in India and every time i see him play, he looks so good!

I also quite like the looks of Australia's debutant Agar. He looks like a very good spinner.

Siddle gets another and a big one of KP. England could get into trouble now!

Aussies will be happier at this point marginally. Two of the three wickets down to poor shots. Root down to the bowl. Still plenty of batting to come with Trott,Bell,Bairstow,Prior and a tail that can wag,so we could still get 400plus. and we'll have to see how the England bowlers and fielding does against Aussie batting line-up.

The twists and turns of a test match and series..

This is sad in hindsight

To be honest, this is what we want in test cricket. Nodody want's to see 500,600 etc on lifeless pitches watching another team bat to save the draw for hours on end. 215 all out is shit but to get the Aussies 60-odd for 4 with 2 of the 4 Watson and Clarke makes our score kinda ok and keeps it very interesting.

I think we are still on one day mode.players getting starts then starting to chase the ball and getting out on shots they Don't need to be making in test matches. I didn't see any of the after tea play because I had to go into work but I hear Broad was unable to bowl..if that continues it'll be tough on our 3 other bowlers if any of the aussie batsmen can hang around.with Clarke out that shouldn't be the case this innings tho.

I wasn't too disheartened by our first innings total.it wasn't good but you don't become a top team if you have to rely on one part of the side to win games.
