Chelsea 1-1 Inter Milan

Said it another thread, this is a big game in terms of momentum and mindset going into the City game.

A good convincing win would be great as the party is over now and while the football hasn't been amazing it's been good and we can see some improvements apart from the fucking useless back line.

The starting team here should be as close to Maresca's first 11 come the City game

Feels like 70mins+ of the XI for City would probably be in order?

Not gonna lie I have absolutely NO IDEA what our best line up is, even when everyone is available and ready to play. Reece will be out due to suspension, and Cole, NJ + Cucu aren't going to be ready until the City game itself Maresca said, which I assume means sub appearances at best vs City.

I guess probably this means Colwill LB/LCB and Malo RB/inverting? Probably Lavia, Caicedo and KDH play for their pressing / physicality and Enzo drops to bench? Who knows. Nkunku and Madueke surely both start too. It is refreshing that we will have to put some potentially very good players on the bench soon, unlike last year where we usually had every good player we had on the pitch and then a bench full of filler.

I'll go with this but I'm not thrilled about it: Jorg; Malo, Fofana, Tosin, Colwill; Lavia, Caicedo, KDH; Nkunku Guiu Madueke.

I liked Servette's back line against Braga yesterday.
It was a bad betting miss as I was onto Braga to double with Ajax.
But I liked the way they stopped Braga from attacking.
The Portuguese had to bleed to take the ball downfield and try something and Braga is the fourth power in Portugal known for their skillfull attackers.
Braga was never eliminated by a Greek team whereas the Swiss teams never went through against a Greek team.
That was a good verrou system, but at the moment ours looks like a defeated army running for life.

every player on Sevette valued at more than £350K

they only have 7 players rated over £1m

their most valued player is worth £3m

2nd most is around £2.1m

their entire squad is valued at £20.5m

every perm incoming so far has been on a free

zero new spend other than a loan fee (which may be free as well and they just pay his salary) for an injured CF whow is valued at around £425K

This XI from Maresca looks like a “let me have one last look in preseason at a few of these players” sort of team. Specifically, this is one last chance to impress from Sanchez, Mudryk, Guiu, and Fofana before we start making some decisions about if some of them will be sold/loaned/benched.

Some expected him to just go with our strongest possible XI as a proper warm up for next week but he clearly wants another look at some of these guys.

So people shouldn’t freak out if we lose again since this absolutely isn’t our best XI.
