my last post then i go to bed😂. i know i trashed Ronaldo and the team a lot, we were indeed very poor the whole game, but fair play to Ronaldo for taking and scoring the first pen after all the drama in extra time with his pen miss. Oblak and Costa were massive throughout the game, but Costa was just super human in the shootout. What drama, this team will be the death of me 😓 Take care guys

my 3 keeper targets all have been superb in this Euros

(Mamar, Oblak (by far the longest), Costa)

Isn’t Oblak available for pretty cheap now? If only we could shift some of the keepers we have…

I think I recall Porto quoting £75m for Diogo Costa last summer so I can only imagine what he’d cost now after this display.

Is Costa so good besides the three penalties today ?
There was a Greek Kofinas - goalkeeper and computer scientist !
Never made to to the national team but he holds the record for saving pens for more than one season - it was very hard to beat Kofinas.

Duran would have buried that chance.

Just sayin'.

Let's just hope Guiu buries those chances (if he's given a chance).

Is communism better for football and if so why ?
We have USSR - Poland - Czechoslovakia - Hungary - Romania and even Bulgaria enjoyed some moderate success.
Now only Croatia from former Jugoslavia is left as a world force (at least before the last two weeks).
The above countries as commie countries never won a world cup and their overall achievements were somewhat below those the free world giants (Brazil - Argentine - Germany - Italy - Spain - France - Netherlands and England in club football).
But they were many grades above what they are now.
Therefore is there a reason communism does better in football ?
Other types of junta have not been doing bad either, yet for the eastern block there is this striking difference.

Why you think about commies first thing in the morning? 😂 it's summer in Greece go to some beach near Athens. I may come to Crete later this summer.

About topic it's complex and difficult to analyze especially different times. Don't think it has anything to do with communism per se. You have footballing countries and non footballing countries. India and China have billions of people but will never be good in football. Some small countries with just a couple of millions of people are usually good like Uruguay or Croatia. Jamaica have just 2.8m people but they are always fastest sprinters with Americans. Because this is their sport.

Sometimes surprises happen. Maybe those you mentioned just happened decades ago for those countries with good generation of players. Plus they had bigger pool of players to choose from. We for example have always been basketball country so youth rather go there. It was not like that when we played semi final in Montevideo. Brazilian kid will most likely go to football. System put in place by federations also plays part. It's possible back then they were better in countries you mentioned.

But small countries still do good. Last 8 World Cups in semi final we had: Turkey, Korea, Croatia x3, Bulgaria, Sweden, Morocco. Greece won Euro. And in last 5 Euros in semi final you had Czech Republic, Russia, Turkey,  Wales and Denmark.

Speaking of club football obviously money makes the difference last couple of decades. Steaua become European champion in late 80s with Romanian players just like Red Star did in 1991 with Yugoslavians. Now when some talent appears there he is gone to rich clubs to Western Europe so early in career. So things like that will never happen again.

Also what is making difference now and will even more so in the future regarding national teams is migration. France is not World Champion in 98' or 18' without immigrants from Africa. Germany in 2014 also had Ozil, Khedira, Podolski, Klose, Boateng who are all first or second generation Germans. Look at this EURO. So far all 6 teams in QF are like this. With Austria and Netherlands likely progressing today all 8. Many of these players are coming from poverty and football is only hope which gives bigger pool of quality players for their national teams and it's normal process. They are going to richest and most developed countries. Italy and Spain are slowly naturally also going this route.

Ronaldo fucking crying? do me a fucking favour what an absolute fucking clown. If he's not crying he's having a temper tantrum because he's being hauled off.

And some cunt in that Portugal team need to drag him off free kicks as well, there is a myth going around he's good at them, bullshit.

Couldn’t watch the game but reading the threat sure was fun

shows three things I have been saying. Penaldo is finished, sesko is a bit of a broja-like carthorse and a bit of a choker, Portugal won’t win this despite having the 3rd most valuable squad.

For the clubs it is obvious.
You know what Greek budgets were in 1970-75 compared to the premier ? 40% !
Later no more than 15%, during the economic crisis something like 0%, now 3%.
But for nations you are not explaining.
