Blues' D-Day on £50m Aguero

Chelsea have 24 hours to meet Sergio Aguero's £50million get-out clause at Atletico Madrid. </h2> The Argie star is set to face Panathinaikos in tomorrow's Champions League qualifier unless the Blues increase their £42m bid.

If Aguero plays, he will be cup-tied for Chelsea's own European campaign this season - scuppering the deal.

Atletico insist they do not want to let the striker go.

And the Spanish club fear a backlash from their fans if they sell Aguero, 21, so close to the start of the season.

Missing out on anothermajor summer target would be a huge blow for Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti.

He was pipped by Real Madrid in the race to sign Kaka. And the Blues' bid to land Bayern Munich ace Franck Ribery has also hit the buffers.

Chelsea given 24 hours to come up with £50m for Aguero

Chelsea have been given 24 hours to meet the £50million get-out clause for Atletico Madrid's Sergio Aguero.

The Spanish club are preparing for a Champions League qualifier against Panathinaikos on Wednesday and if no deal is done, Aguero will play meaning he will be ineligible to play for the Blues in Europe, suggesting a deal would be extremely unlikely.

Atletico will be loathe to lose the Argentine striker but Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti would hate to miss out on another potential target.

Chelsea bid nearly 50 million euros for Aguero -report

MADRID (AFP) – Chelsea have offered Spanish side Atletico Madrid nearly 50 million euros for their Argentine international striker Sergio Aguero, a newspaper reported Saturday.

The English Premiership side would be willing to pay Atletico up to 57 million euros if the deal included another Argentine player, Maxi Rodriguez, sports daily Marca said.

Atletico has consistently said that it does not want to let Aguero go.

The 21-year-old son-in-law of Argentina manager Diego Maradona has a recision clause in his contract with Atletico worth 60 million euros.

He joined Atletico in 2006 from Argentine side Independiente and is under contract with the Spanish team until 2012.

Aguero scored in Argentina's 3-2 friendly victory over Russia on Wednesday.

If he plays for Atletico during the club's Champions League qualifier against Panathinaikos next week he will not be able to play in a European competition for any other side this season.

Decision time as Chelsea weigh-up Sergio Aguero move

n_atletico_de_madrid_sergio_kun_aguero-8389.jpg

Ancelotti looks set to add one more player to his squad before the transfer window closes on Aug 31 and the the Athletico Madrid striker looks the most likely candidate.

Aguero will face Panathinaikos in Wednesday's Champions League qualifier unless Chelsea increase their £42m bid, according to the Sun.

If Aguero plays, the Argentine will be cup-tied for Chelsea's own European campaign this season.

Atletico are likely to turn down the offer, which would smash the current British transfer record of £32 million paid by Manchester City for Robinho last summer, and hold out for the full £50m buy-out clause in Aguero's contract.

Ancelotti has not ruled out the possibility of bringing one more new face to Stamford Bridge.

"The market finishes on August 31 and if there is some possibility to improve the squad we can do it," he said.

Ive read elsewhere that these reports are false and that Athletico will not sell him because there isnt enough time to find a suitible replacement...However i hope those arents correct and those above are ^^^. PLEASE Chelsea....ITS JUST 8M MORE...whats £8 million to Roman....He probably shits that amount in expensive food every week!!! Doooo it. Will be a massive step forwards for Chelsea....Something we just dont have in the squad. Also im confused on this Champions League cup tied crap...Some places it says for the group stages...Some reports like those above say for the whole of the tournament. When Barca (who?) were after Fabregas they were gonna bid for him before the Celtic match so he could play with them "before the knockouts", so this radio report suggested that the two club rule only applies for group stages???
