Derby remain adamant they have had no approach from Chelsea for Frank Lampard.

“We have made it very clear to everyone - but most importantly to Frank himself - that we want to retain him at the club for the long term," said Derby owner Mel Morris.

"If Chelsea want to hire Frank, then it is in their gift to make an offer in pursuit of that. In the meantime, we will continue to put our best foot forward to continue with our plans for the coming season.

"We will work closely with Frank in that regard so that he knows how much he is wanted by everyone associated with the club.”

Will be a very long summer and short preseason..

So it looks like Chelsea are not 100% sure on Lampard. They could be still looking at over coaches. Which is good.

But it's weird, they let Sarri go without confirming a replacement.

Just because we haven't made the approach, doesn't mean we aren't 100% sure on Lampard. Lots of reports stated we'll make the move this week. And besides, we just like to take our own sweet time...

Yes it does. They haven't approached Derby at all, and it kind of shows some disrespect to Derby as they need to know ASAP that if Lampard's going or not, otherwise this will disrupt their next season plans.

When was the last time the board did something in an efficient manner? They were likely sorting out the situation with Sarri and Juventus in past weeks and now that he's confirmed gone, they can move on to securing his replacement.

Conte was still our coach when we were dealing with Sarri. Conte was sacked, then a day later Sarri was appointed.

The board knew they were going to sack Conte back then and it's only the disagreement over the payout that dragged on till July. So it's obvious that they had needed to go for a replacement. Different case with Sarri, who the board didn't mind keeping but also willing to let go as long as Juventus pay up the compensation, which of course they did. Would have been awkward if Sarri to Juventus suddenly didn't happen and we still had a manager while busy chasing for a new one.

Chelsea haven't even approached Derby yet, and what if Derby and Chelsea have a spit over?

Unless Marina decides to go all stingy (again) with the compensation, it should be straightforward considering it will cost only £4 million to get Lampard and that's £1 million less than what we reportedly received from Juventus for Sarri.

Interesting Zola hasn't joined Sarri at Juve which begs the question was Franco's appointment just tokenism by the board. I'm pretty sure if Sarri said to Zola will you come to Juve with me Franco would have said yes.

Zola will reportedly leave the club after turning down an ambassadorial role. Was clearly brought in to help Sarri to settle in the Premier League etc.

If Harry Redknapp is saying what he has said then that's a close to the source as you can get really.

Lee Bowyer not extending his contract with Charlton. One of the names mentioned to replace Lampard at Derby apparently?

These sorts of rumours doing the rounds do seem to suggest that the club are looking at putting a longer term project in place. It will be intriguing to see if the board have the patience to follow through if this is the route they decide to take.

If/when the news breaks "Chelsea make formal contact with Derby" etc;  that is basically the endgame.   That process used to start at the beginning, nowadays it is done once you have already got the managers contract sorted.

Lampard and Chelsea I am almost certain, have already spoken, or still are

He's lead his team out of the top four three out of the last four season's. He finished 6th with Zlatan leading the line for god sake.

Nothing against you but I'm genuinely stunned that there's so many people entertaining the idea of a Jose mark 3 after how it ended with us and United, it would see us away from challenging for years and years and years, will probably be as damaging as Souness's spell at Liverpool was,if not more so.

Exactly, only a mentally challenged club would step on the same rake twice. Jose is the last name of anyone I want to see back.

I'd love Lampard to do well but he really needs a few years experience first.

I'd rather Jose who has won multiple league titles and a couple of champions league's than Lampard who has 0 experience at top level management.

There really arent many options that I can see.

If we were close to bringing in ex Derby manager Gary Rowett who still has more experience than Frank, everyone would be losing their shit.

It will be interesting to see how much patience Roman has especially if we get off to an awful start to the season.

It's just a shit time for us. It's hard to be positive.

Lost our best player, lost our manager and transfer banned.
