I wonder if the 'to sign within 10 days' stuff is supposed to serve as an ultimatum to Simeone. According to Corriere dello Sport, at least, Abramovich will only sign off on the deal if/when Simeone turns the position down. Watch us miss out on both

Thats what I was thinking. Specially having read somewhere that Roman was SUPPOSEDLY in Spain last week to meet Simeone. Whether Simeones been offered the job and hes playing hard to get and Contes now said put up or shut up.

Ill say it again - It would be sods law to miss out on both and we get the revolving managers door again. Then Simeone will take over at that North London Club next year.

The hatred the guardian displays towards Chelsea pisses me off. The case is utter garbage, so fitting it's in that rag that lives in the gutter

Conte might be the right man at the end of the day, but I really doubt the board is getting Conte beacuse they indentified him as the right man, I really doubt they know his tactics and football phylosophy, it seems its more based in the fact he is Italy head coach and won some trophies with Juventus in the past and is available.

Have to disagree with that. I doubt Roman and the board not did some careful consideration before making any decision for manager appointments. We set the standard so high for any manager, hence we have no problem pay mega bucks for manager release clause or terminating their contract with huge compensation when they couldn't fulfill the job. Yes, not all manager chosen do wonders, but we're certainly not playing with manager appointment, just because 'he is the only one available, let's hire him' factor. I think we're the last club to be considered doing that.

Yes, of course Conte's time at Juve come as a consideration to decide his appointment here.

The board do take some careful consideration before making decisions, but we should be asking what they take into consideration, and as I said it my first post, Chelsea usually make some obvious appointments: a big name with big trophy in his CV (Ancelotti, Mourinho MK II, Benitez or Hiddink) or a "promissing" manager, and that means someone who won a smaller trophy (Andre Villas Boas, or the news that the board was also considering Sampaoli, who just won Copa América with Chile). Simeone already was a great manager in 2013, but he was only on Chelsea radar after his 13/14 season, and If Conte, instead of getting Italy job was at this moment working in Southampton or Aton Villas, I really doubt the board would even consider appointing him, and thats my point.

Why can't we make HIDDINK our permanent manager?

because he's at a retiring age, would probably be sacked, and we need someone young and in their prime to rebuild us- as lpool city and utd will have

Because he doesn't want to? You can't force old Dutch men to do age-inappropriate jobs they don't want to do. That's called slavery and usually you'd need to move your headquarters to some Pacific island and get 10-year-old Chinese children for that...

Conte as the favorite as the other names linked (Simeone and Allegri) speaks loud about people running the club. I'm not sure the those people know one thing or two about football. Conte is the typical Chelsea appointment. Lets think about our past managers:

Scolari: Won WC with Brazil in 2002, and was doing really good with Portugal NT, making the portuguese side play their strongest football in decades.

Ancelotti: humm, this guy is managing Milan and won 2 UCL for them. Lets bring him.

Andre Villas Boas: hey, young portuguese manager, playing attacking football and just won an Europa League. The righ man.

RDM: he was just an interim, but he just one one FA Cup and one UCL, we can't fire him, can we?

Benitez: just an interim, but of course this board would look for someone with a CV with a big trophy.

Mourinho: the squad was prepared for Guardiola, but we didn't get Guardiola, but we must get a TOP manager, a great one, a special one, so this man must be...Mourinho!!!

Now lets think about those names. Simeone is only taken into consideration because he won La Liga in 2014 and made that year UCL Final. Allegri was playing UCL Final last season. Conte is managing one of the most important NT in the world and the nexo Euro is close, so he is in the spotlight just like other coachs from big european NT. I'm still waiting the day Chelsea will make an appointment like Pochettino in Spurs, or Luis Enrique in Barcelona, or even Simeone, before he was famous as a coach.

In PL we have some good coachs than can prove to be great ones If they have the opportunity manage better players, like Koeman, Bilic or Quique Flores, but of course this board won't even consider appointing someone from Watford, Southampton or West Ham, they need someone with a fancy brand in their CV, so course they want someone who is "Italy head coach". Even when the board appoint a "promissing" manager, its based in the fact that manager won Europa League and portuguese League with an attacking football based Porto.

Conte might be the right man at the end of the day, but I really doubt the board is getting Conte beacuse they indentified him as the right man, I really doubt they know his tactics and football phylosophy, it seems its more based in the fact he is Italy head coach and won some trophies with Juventus in the past and is available.

The problem we have as I see it in General is we have lost our way. We have lost our character and identity. So instead of getting managers to suit us we are getting managers and we are adapting to them.

So it doesn't really matter what manager we get as long as hes strong and commited to winning.
