I think 9 times out of 10 we defend it very well. It wasn't just that it was a stupid foul (which I think it clearly was). It was his nonchalant-ness in how he lost the ball too. He shouldn't lose the ball like that. Either let it out for a corner or kick it wide. If you can't clear it easily out or to the side, you concede a corner. Simple defending. I think 9 times out of 10 we defend it very well. The obvious option which you are leaving out is to deal with the ball when Lallana was still 10 meters away. Clear it down the line, clear it for a throw in, heck even let it go out for a corner. Instead he tried to dribble past Lallana a the edge of our own box with no one covering him so when he did lose the ball he had to commit a stupid foul. termninja 5,290 Posted June 6, 2015 Share Posted June 6, 2015 I'm a big fan of Ivanovic, and obviously from my avatar and flag you know I'm telling the truth, but I'm surprised with how much Mourinho rates him. For 2 seasons now he has been a bit above average. Not bad or anything, but not worth Jose's infinite amount of love imho. I can understand his loss of top performance though, I can't remember when he has missed more then 2 games unless he was suspended or left to rest. Not a lot of players can hold that consistency. Hopefully he can finally get a full rest and have a better season ahead. That said, Jose gave him full freedom on the wing (considering Willian usually goes centrally) , and taking that into view, he actually does well in defense when I take into view how much forward he goes.Still crazy through to have a centre back turned right back turned into right scoring full back xDAzpi our best rb/lb for me. For a while I couldn't stand his attack first; defend later aproach.Isn't that the cycle of all Ivan critics (me included). His approach ins't gonna change but it does have varying effectiveness.Maybe it's because he scores, maybe it's because he comes across as such a badass motherfucka. But i've always had this love-hate-love-hate relationship with Ivan. Because when he lolly gags on the defensive end, he can still score a game winner like against Aston Villa, or Liverpool in the COC.
