100 million+ is still way more than 72 million though. If we're going to spend that much on someone, it should be for someone in their peak, a proven quality and can come in and make a difference immediately.

I don't know if it's because of the transfer ban but if reports are to be believed, then the price tag may be a reason why we haven't made contact with Dortmund for Sancho when other big clubs are already circling for him.

I think the club would go there for certain players if SFL really wanted them. Whether that is Sancho or not is another matter. However, if it is £60-70m for Zaha or £100m for Sancho, I would hope the club would go for Sancho. The only AM out there that really falls into the 23-27 year old bracket thar I really want is Dybala but he would have questions over his ability to adapt to the PL.

When have the club fully bent over for the managers? So many past managers wanted Player A, B, C but ended up with Player X, Y, Z. The club will back the manager but only if the players cost reasonable money, aren't too old, have resale value etc.

I think the reason why we missed on 'A, B, C' targets is because they didn't want to join us... I'm sure club did everything in their power to sign Romagnoli, Barella, Nainngolan, Lukaku, Sandro over the last couple of years.

Sarri got his preferred goalkeeper and heartbeat of his Napoli system at what were our first and third biggest outlays ever.

Should Frank go in like a bull in a china shop and demand 6 world class player at the cost of a small country (that would see us fall foul of FFP) then he will be told where to go and rightly so, however Frank and Marina seem to have a better working relationship than his predecessors it isn't hard to imagine them striking up a compromise.

Frank: I really want Mbappe, we have to go all out I think he can be the one that really pushes us to domination.

Marina: I've checked the fiances Frank, we can do it but that will mean we have to abandon our pursuit of Chilwell and you'd have to promote Maatsen instead, atleast until next year.

Frank: Deal

Obviously it's not as simplistic as that and I've also used the most extreme example imaginable but I do believe if Frank puts his mind on one particular player to move the team up a level he will ultimately get the backing that Sarri did with Kepa and Jorginho.

In 2017-18, Chelsea had a record revenue of 443m.

If we buy mbappe for 350m at a 400kpw contract, only and only mbappe would cost 90mil in amortized value and salary, which is 20% of our total revenue. Which is actually laughable. There is no way we can/will/should do that.

(Not you) the fact that people still think that we should go all out for mbappe because of "net spend" additions and subtractions, is just lol,

£350m is insane, although even £250 to £280m is still a shedload (unless you are talking euros)

and yes, his salary will be fucking massive, I think you actually are way UNDERPRICING him salary-wise, by a LOT

Messi makes over £1m PER week in salary!!

Quote

https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/messi-nets-1m-a-week-deal-fcmrrv7xr

The Barcelona striker Lionel Messi will become the first £1m-a-week player in a new deal to be signed this month

Messi’s gross pay under the four-year deal has been set at an annual £54.8m, according to a club source, and will take football salaries to an extraordinary new level.

I gave up several weeks ago trying to make it (Mbappe) work after I did a deeper dive into what I could find of our finances and what seem to be the new path forward for the club

(and it was more or less a theoretical exercise anyway, he is not coming here, especially with our shit stadium situation, which kneecaps our revenues for the next 10 year or more at least (IF next year Roman did decide to move forward, it will not be done until near 2028 to 2030, it already was pushed back to 2026 two years ago or so, (the opening) and that was before he pulled the plug and soon (if not already, we lose the permit), grrr),

the model of the club financially appears to have underwent a very large change

the only true outlier in the last 3 years or so is Kepa

and let us all hope that pays off

I do still 100000000000% stand behind my absolute shredding of our sales cock-ups, horrid contract management, and botched negotiations

that IS real money, and a crazy amount, shit away, no matter how you look at the books

but there is, I admit, absolutely zero we can do about, it is already water under a damaged dam

other than Chilwell (who we ARE targeting, make no mistake about that, even if we fail, I at least know we are going to try like hell), I have zero clue who we are going after

surely Mr £25m release clause Werner HAS to be another

Ake is probably the last one I am fairly sure we make a play for (IF we even add CB's, which I think only happens if we sell AC, and Barca does want him, and he should feth basically the same (40m) what ake will cost, so a wash)

other than that, I have no idea who and even IF we make plays for

I think the links to Zaha and Declan Rice (who will cost a combined £150m to £160m) are madness, but hey, that is just me

I do not see us dropping anywhere near the numbers I was floating before, it just is not going to happen (not even my reduced £250m to £300m)

at this point I think we will be damn lucky to get Chilwell, Ake and some oki but not great (I think we miss out on Werner, sob) striker, and some oki but not great RWer (no way do I see us grabbing Sancho for around £100m to £120m nor dropping £70m to £80m on Zaha)

even that (lets say just pre gross spend on trans fees, I am not going to get into sales revenue, although it will easily cover it) will be around (for the 4 players, Chilwell, Ake, Mr X striker, Mr X

Right winger) £200-225m or so gross (not counting salaries), and that is pushing the limits of my new, reduced outlook

I think we DO renew Willian, and even then, there is a chance we do NOT buy ANY winger, we just roll with CHO, Willian and Pulisic, and use Mount and a by-then-recovered RLC as a Pedro replacement (or maybe even Anjorin)

THAT /now 3 buys) will be around the £150m or so that Matt Law said was the budget (although I do belive he meant for January IF we get the ban lifted)

I would not be at all shocked if that £150m gross is the SUMMER budget though, I think the big spend days just might be gone for good (I am 60% leaning that way) and now it is all about revenue extraction as along as the club stays at its current level on the pitch (top 4, and get into knock-out CL stages each year)

oh well

There's a huge difference between spending around 130 million on 2 players and spending over 200-300 million on 1 player. And that's without mentioning the astronomical wages that someone like Mbappe would want. Which is why I said the club will back the manager but not to the point it becomes unreasonable for them. We're not Real Madrid or Barcelona.

Think you alluded to this earlier but if our squad is already perfect but just need that one big star signing to take us to a different level, then maybe, MAYBE, we will dump that much money on one player. But since our squad isn't perfect and some other areas need urgent addressing, we certainly aren't going to spend that much on one player and it's not wise to do so either.

Here, I would like to ask a question: Which defenders are good enough against the likes of Messi, Ronaldo, aguero, and mbappe?

I would honestly like to know.

atm

Van Dijk (who is the best CB in the world, atm, even though I HATE the bindippers, he is other worldly atm)

Koulibaly

Raphaël Varane

drop off

José Giménez

pre-injury Aymeric Laporte (IF he fully recovers, he goes into the top 5 again

and, IF/when he settles in, de Ligt

just below them

Lucas Hernández

Skriniar

Marquinhos

Romagnoli (he really is a superb CB, he is just on a SHIT team)

and then potentially Konate in a couple years

after those 9 (and potentially 10)

BIG drop off

Umtiti looks like damaged goods (maybe permanently) or he would have been in there, he was insane in the WC (as was Varane)

btw

Lewandowski (atm)  is STREETS ahead of Aguero and so is Kane, we maybe witnessing (in Lewa) the single greatest pure striker season ever (maybe only topped by Gerd Müller, (72-73) but he has a shot to pass him for sure)

Could Lewandowski break Messi's record?

https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/50593431

It is not even December and Lewandowski is well on his way to beating his previous best in a single season - the 43 he managed for Bayern in 2016-17.

But his form this term means he may well have his sights set on Barcelona captain Messi's record tally of 73, set in 2011-12.

He has more goals at this stage than the five-times Ballon d'Or winner did that year - 27 compared to Messi's 25.

The Argentine went on to make 60 appearances as Barca won the Copa del Rey and the Club World Cup, despite falling short to Jose Mourinho's Real Madrid in La Liga and being knocked out of the Champions League by Chelsea in the semi-final.

Bayern still have 22 league games to play, with potentially six matches remaining in the German Cup and another eight in the Champions League, should they reach the final of both competitions.

That would take Lewandowski's tally to 56 matches.

So, to equal Messi's record, he just needs the small matter of 46 goals in a potential 36 games - that's a rate of 1.28 goals per game. His current scoring rate? 1.35.

snip

The Bundesliga only playing 34 games (not 38) plus no FWCC for Bayern may fuck Lewa

completely agree

ironically

Mbappe

is at the one team already that is 2 deep (or more) with WC or real quality (when healthy) players in every position (PSG)

only thing I would add is another CMF (and they are so going nuts over Camavinga who is a hybrid, GRRRRRRRRRR)

they toss him into mix (and they are looking at bloody (shoot me now he is the one pure CMF out there I droooooooool over, Saul) they are LOADED as fuck

plus I think they upgrade on their fullbacks in the summer or even in January as well and deffo looking into CMF

they probably will lose Neymar (I do not think Mbappe goes this summer now) but that is just another 200m plus euros to burn for them, lolol

I could see THEM going for Dembele or Sancho even and I would much rather Sancho go there than an EPL club not named Chelsea (and he wont, I think be coming here)

I really do not know why Neymar just doesn't chill the fuck out and try and win CL's there (I guess the shitty Ligue 1 bores him)

I do not like it either, but I am not the owner, lolol

my little Blue heart sunk when Roman pulled the plug on the new stadium, there is almost no way to understate the gut shot that was for our next 8 to 10 years. We will lose out on 100's of millions in revenue over a ten year span and it hurts us with recruitment of the BIG ballers

in a couple years both Barca and Real are going to have INSANE renovations (I have posted this before with pics, they will be instantly the best two football stadiums on the planet)

Spuds has the best football stadium in the UK atm

Shitty has (as a total package) a top 5 in world physical plant

Manure will soon (next 4 or 5 years max) completely upgrade OT

Atleti have an insane new stadium

Juve has a world class stadium and faculties, so does Bayern

hell, even Napoli is getting a new stadium finally

PSG is also going to do a complete rehab massive expansion and they are building a crazy new training complex

Liverpool just dropped a tonne on renovating Anfield and is soon upgrading the rest (plus, it is Anfield, lol, even though I HATE them, it is one of those fucking 'temples of football')

Everton will have a brand new state of the art stadium

Arse is meh (but still has far more lux boxes and revenue capability than SB) and they will soon do some major renovations

both Inter and AC Milan are getting new, separate stadiums

fucking Valencia is finally going to finish (it has been on hold for 10 years) their new stadium

Dortmund (even though not new) has a monster stadium (I went to game there versus Schalke with my father (he had a business trip to seal an M&A for his bank) 15 years ago (spring 2004) when I was 11, and it was one of the loudest stadiums I have ever been it, it is MADNESS, and they also are going to renovate)

Even Roma is finally getting a new stadium

we are the only top 20 club who is stuck (or soon will be) in a small, old, non renovated stadium

its really bad news on a longer term event horizon

Very valid points my friend.....as much as I love SB we really need an upgrade to even follow suit with the others. RA either has to sell or put up the money to help out with the costs. It also complicates Things when a new buyer knows on top of paying 3B he has to add another 1B for the stadium.

Not that we are going to get him but I honestly do not see Mbappe leaving PSG for a while. The reason I say this is because the figures for him are just insane. £300m plus what £600k a week minimum? That is like £450m on a five year contract and even then, you have to think he will ask for more as people like Bale are on £600k. That kind of money buys you half a stadium in London, not going to happen imo. Instead I reckon he will see out his contract at PSG then go on a free to Real or Barca. If he does that, he can pretty much ask for £1.2m a week and everyone is a winner, bar PSG.

As for our signings going forward, I think we have a lot of room to buy big but we need to be smart as really we're looking at 5 or 6 players to fill the first team and squad out properly. This however, I think can be done. For instance, Werner is a £80m+ player going for £27m. That is a player that we should be moving heaven and earth for as he would solve two issues alone (CF2 and a additional AM). LB, I am starting to come around to the idea of Chilwell as if you ship out Emerson and Alonso his fee would not be that much higher that their fees combined and his wages are unlikely to be much more that theirs combined. That would then leave us with Dave, James, Chilwell but it should be remembered that that both Tomori and Rudiger have experience of playing RB so could act as a CB/RB hybrid like Bane used to. CM I still have high hopes for Ampadu but both Barkley and Baka (who is playing well at Monaco) would likely bring in a good £50m. Drinky is a complete write off at this point. That sort of money could get you most of a SMS. At CB personally I would sacrifice Zouma to bring in £35m+ and then go out for a better CB. CB is really the area where I think we may struggle to find someone that isn't insanely expensive or could be had. AM in a world where Werner signs would not really have to be dealt with until 2021 if Willian extends and as much as I would like a top new GK, I think if we brought in a Foster type character to sit behind Kepa it would help a lot.

That sort of transfer approach to me isn't out of the realms of possibility. If we end up buy a Sancho however (which I do think is the kind of thing the club would do), then the rest is much tougher as he would eat up a lot of cap space.

We have to take PSG into consideration. I dont think they as a club care about revenue. I mean they have spent 220m euros and 100+ on mbappe in the last 2 windows. Dont see why they would sell for 200m. If psg win a CL, and break the voodoo, why would mbappe even want to go into messi's shadow or RM, when he can be the main alpha guy in PSG and build his own legacy. Given all of it, the 200/250mil just seem like PSG would be willing to sell. Do agree about salary though. Wont be surprised if he is pulling messi-ish salary in a couple of years (when he is due a new contract). Irrespective, I feel even talking about him from a chelsea perspective is moot. Just does not seem possible/improbable under any circumstance.
