He was offered a contract but he wanted first team minutes. You can't make everyone happy with a back up role.

Interesting if so after refusing our contract. Doubt it is about wanting to stay and become a Chelsea player sadly..probably he / his agent are thinking how much better a deal he can get as a free agent, especially in terms of a sign on fee?

They could be maneuvering for an escape clause in case Burnley go down or something else they want.

The only case for letting Maatsen go is that for some reason Poch doesn’t think he’s a LB or LWB. Why, I have no idea. 

Looks like he’d even rather play Colwill out of position there than use Maatsen. So if he’s not going to use him at LB and we’re now well stocked in attacking midfield the club may feel that there’s no place for him.
