Werner on his future and uh oh, he mentioned Spain...

https://www.football.london/chelsea-fc/timo-werner-drops-premier-league-17576694

Speaking to Bild, the Germany international said: "The Premier League is certainly the most interesting league, you have to say. There is a certain flair to watching the English league and playing there.

"But many Germans have also been very successful in Spain, such as Sami Khedira and Mesut Ozil."

However, asked if he could leave Leipzig this month Werner added: "As of now I have no desire to look for a move elsewhere."

I see Real Madrid, Liverpool and Manchester United as our top3 rivals for Werner. Liverpool already have established front three and by reports they are after Harvatz who is very expensive. Plus Japanese guy... That should put them off. About Real let's hope they put fate in Jovic and Timo get scared by competition. United wanted to buy Haaland so they are after striker. Werner would be good fit for them since he moves nicely just like Martial and Rashford. But hopefully we'll have CL football next season and they don't. Can't see him elsewhere.

Regarding United, even with CL football next season, are they any closer to challenging for the big titles again? That's also another factor. Maybe I'm being biased but I believe we're in a better position than United to get better from here.

A lot can change in a few years but I'll be very surprised if we're not the next team not named City or Liverpool to win the league.

But he was very clear about starting spot. Can he get that in Madrid?

We have the potential but we need at least 3 top signings and a fit Loftus-Cheek to compete.

A top left back, winger, striker along with the natural evolvement of the academy boys should see us in position to properly challenge the year after next.

You never know maybe next year say Chelsea signed

Sancho

Werner

Telles

bought Gallagher back from loan and had a fully fit Loftus-Cheek

While selling

Barkley

Alonso

Giroud

Batshuayi

while selling off some of the loan army I think we could compete.

@Vesper Lets say we're all in with Tammy as our striker. Who are the best backup striking options?

I think the better option is to be able to find a higher quality player who is versatile enough to play different roles (lone striker, second striker, out wide) and therefore won't necessarily be "backup quality" and instead first team quality getting plenty of game time due to rotation and suitability across the front line.

I've mentioned it before, but in my opinion, Anelka was really underappreciated by a large proportion of the fan base during his time here. He was an easy scapegoat at times but he sacrificed much of his game to play out wide for the majority of games and we were pretty successful during this period. But where his additional value came into play was we didn't miss Drogba very often when he was unavailable due to injury, Afcon, etc because Anelka was a top quality central striker. He top scored in the whole league in the Scolari/Hiddink season when Drogba struggled for form and fitness and besides probably United and Liverpool at the time, he would have walked into any other team in the league as their main striker.

Since he left, we've never had an alternative striking option anywhere near his quality and in some years, our main striking option wasn't anywhere near his quality either.

The obvious option I think when you think of someone of this ilk has to be Werner because of his ability to play multiple roles across the attack and he offers different strengths and characteristics to Tammy in the same way that Drogba and Anelka differed. As most have mentioned Werner will be in huge demand in the summer so there's no guarantee we'll get a clear run at him. But there must be other players across the continent that can offer something similar in case he's a no go.

reports that mertens is available for low fee (read 8.5M somewhere on twitter, who knows if it's true) because his contract runs out in summer and that us and arsenal are interested...

wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to sell giroud, get mertens in until end of season to help us get top 4 and then hopefully make some big signings in summer like sancho and werner

Soumare another fucking Bakayoko signing you watch

Having watched Soumare a bit that's very harsh. He is about 1000x the footballer Bakayoko is. He's very composed and classy on the ball whereas Baka has the touch of a brick wall.

I just don't think we need a pure DM like him. He's really a player Arse or United should be after, not us.

Soumare looks decent actually but only if we use him as DM, not Kante's current position. Young strong physical and good at driving forward when he wants. For a decent fee its ok imo but then again not exactly where we are weak, surely other areas require more urgent help. It is said its battle between us and manu, he will get much much more playing time at manu.

An out-and-out DM wouldn't be the worst thing for us IMO, given how flimsy our midfield can be at times, even when Kante is playing. That said, we're well stocked in midfield in terms of numbers. Unless we let someone go, signing Soumare makes no sense in that case.
