Wonder if Lampard might just sign Telles for 35m in this window him and James could be our TAA and Robinson. Both great crosses and would also leave more money for Sancho.

Yesterday after Azpi put in a weak cross with his left foot I turned around to the guy next to me and said that was a scoring chance with a dynamic left back.

I just don't think Chilwell offers enough going forward and if he's (by the sounds of what the LCFC fans are saying) poor defensively aswell we're basically looking at an Alonso with pace at best and an expensive Emerson at worst.

I am a bit wary of Telles because usually there's a reason if a player is still yet to properly hit a major league at 27 but with his alleged low release clause (meaning we can recoup if it all goes wrong) and the numbers he has produced going forward I wouldn't be against taking a punt, low risk high reward.

I assume that is how it works. Every club knows players preference destination due to inside information. For example Werner in the Germany dressing room speaks with teammates (Rudiger) or even in the club (Ampadu). If James Rodriguez doesn't want to play in the PL I'm sure all top clubs are aware of it so they don't bother with negotiations with other clubs.

It just means that he's open to joining but doesn't necessarily mean he will join.

So (my usual question to all on the subject of LB's)

who do you think we should buy?

we HAVE to buy someone this January (hopefully but doubtful) or summer

it is sheer and utter madness to trod on with what we have now

Grimaldo is not worth 60m euros IMHO

you already partially threw water on Telles (at least you are open-minded, so hat tip there)

less than zero chance we drop 100m euros on Gaya (nor should we)

Everton will demand close to Grimaldo money for Digne and he is not worth that

David Alaba is a pipe dream, Bayern will never sell him now as he is their best CB atm due to huge injuries, and he soon turns 28, so is not really a long term (more than 3 years) fix, especially for the 70-80m euros or so Bayern will demand

Telles is 6 months younger than DA, but is around half the price of Alaba and Chilwell

Malang Sarr LB experiment at Nice was a bust a true shame as if he was capable he is perfect physically for the EPL, big, strong, very fast, young)

Ake is now apparently off the table overall (foolishly I think given his buyback price) but he is much more of a CB than an LB I think (but would probably be a great backup option at LB)

Almost zero chance Real Madrid will sell either Ferland Mendy or Sergio Reguilón

Absolutely no way do I want any of Shitty's 3 LB's, especially for the price they would demand (Oleksandr Zinchenko is the only one I might be interested in, and he is the least likely to be sold.)

Marcel Halstenberg turns 29 near the start of next season so he is not an option

Nicolás Tagliafico turns 28 at seasons start, and is too small and too expensive (Ajax was saying around a near Grimaldo level valuation of 55m euros last year)

Faouzi Ghoulam is 29yo in a couple weeks and his play has plummeted the past 2 years, so hell no

Maatsen is not the answer, I fear, he is (perhaps) simply too small to be a top class LB in the EPL, plus he is so young and inexperienced

this leaves 7 remotely viable options (the first 4 are by far the best atm but have issues making it hard)

if you also say no to all, then I would love to see your options, as we are now truly (taking away all I have just listed plus these 5) down into the dregs or the no chance in hell ones

1. Theo Hernández (my new number co-number one option along with Gosens provided Telles is a no go, BUT he loves AC Milan and turned down better clubs last year to sign with them) I think we so need to sound him out

2. Luca Pellegrini (but I see almost no chance Juve will sell him, they have him on loan grooming him to be Alex Sandro's replacement) he has looked great in the games I have seen, turns 21 in March

3. Rayan Aït Nouri (even younger, at only 18yo) This is who I would go for as one of the two LB's we need to buy (we need to sell both Emerson and Alonso, whilst we can still get a total of around £60m for them, they are both shit, in fact so shot that a turgid out of position Azpi has benched them both) Palace, Atletico Madrid want him badly, and some mystery top 5 EPL clubs has put in a bid of 30m euro for him as well (maybe us??)

4. Robin Gosens of Atalanta. Big, pacy, 25yo, scores a lot (on track to score 14 or 15 goals and he scored v Inter last night) I can see him as a viable option

5. Wendell of Bayer Leverkusen, BUT I fear he is an Emerson clone, and he is 27yo in the summer so the 'Telles issue' comes up, that being, if he is that good, why is he still on smaller club and now totally into his peak years? He is nowhere near as good as Telles btw.

then 2 more younger ones

6. Lloyd Kelly 21yo and the tallest on here 1.9m, Bournemouth paid £13.32m for him, but he has been injured

7.  Vitalii Mykolenko (20yo from Dynamo Kyiv, great size, pacy and is coming on fast, we faced him last year in the EL)

I haven't seen any of him so can't make a solid enough judgement but if Gosens is as good as the stats are suggesting he's definitely worth a look. Reason why my preference is Grimaldo (all be it with a steep price tag) is he's quite tenacious (which often counters a lack of physical/height edge) and defends quite well while offering good stats going the other way. If we get Chilwell I'll get behind him and hope I'm wrong, but apart from a few games in or around the 9-0 I've never looked at him and felt our wide play would go up a level (and even Marcos has the odd few games a season where you think "if we saw that every week")....

I'm hoping the club/Frank/scouts have a left field option in their sights if the out there names above are unattainable, I hate to keep using Klopp as an example (it's just quite apt as if we want to start winning titles again we have to build in a similar way as we don't have the blank cheque the elite clubs and City do) but no top LBs were available in 2017 for him so he thought outside the box and sought after Robertson, if our scouts search hard and wide enough they'll surely/hopefully be a rough diamond of similar mould lurking somewhere.

I'm starting to lean more and more to the thought that the club have got word from our main targets that they're willing to come here in the summer and that's why we aren't signing anyone now.

Could possibly see Ake near deadline day but not any attackers.

Robin Gosens

He was marvellous last night and has 5 and a half peak years left

I also love their RM, Tim Castagne

both are progressive and solid defensively

teams with two solid fullbacks do well usually

conversely, poor fullback play can just kill you

as much as some tend to slag off Atalanta, I really respect their scouting, play, and overall business model, they so punch above their weight for a small team

Funny thing is that in the first Video you posted, he said his dream club is Schalke 04 and wants to play for them

Well, he is German and Schalke is a great club (I have always liked them and little St Pauli) I HATE Bayern, they are the only German club I actually detest. Borrussia Dortmund are fun to watch. And I wish Hamburg would come back up, it is so strange with them not at top flight. I like Hertha too, most because Berlin is one of my favourite cities on the planet, and they have the BEST techno club scene in the world, plu I have a tonne of mates who support them.

Gosens is from Emmerich am Rhein and Schalke is probably the closest, or near closest big German club to there. He lived right on the Dutch border.

Outside of The Bridge (which will always be my default numero uno) the Olympic Stadium that Hertha play their games in is probably my favrouite stadium I've visited (just beats Sporting).

It combines historic elements with the required modern touches to almost perfection.

I was unaware of a major thing about Zaha

fucking Manure

they get 20% off the top of any deal

so lets say

we split the difference between my £40m and Palace's  £80m

we buy him for £60m

Palace only walks with £48m

at £80m they walk with £64m

at £40m, they walk with £32m, which is less than we paid for Donkeywater

no wonder they are jacking up the price
