The deal we were offered was also a lot more than 23.5 as we were not talking about split ownership (which you can't even do in PL and tbh should be banned everywhere),

the 23.5m was the total for 100 per cent of his rights AND paid out over time

surely we could have paid 25m, £30m or so all at once, plus purchased Felix for a decent fee

I am VERY unimpressed with our board when it comes to fees and also talent targeting in general, PLUS the insane refusal to buy some veterans for cheap to provide a sine and intangibles

They refused to negotiate below £35m, played hard ball with us (gave a better deal to another club afterwards). Still, £35m was a reasonable price for him, with the benefit of hindsight now that we see how well he's handled Portugal so far

And you were dead against Samu, you were actually extremely outraged they were even considering him... So it is not like it was a total no brainer to buy him. On this one, you should probably give them a break.

Agreed tho on the refusal to pick up some good experienced pros hurting us.

With Samu, wasn't it his team refused to sign one of those ultra long contracts and his image right deal the club want everyone to sign?

I still have not ever heard a legit and actual reason why we bailed out on the Samu deal.

Porto paid Atlético Madrid £12.5 million for 50% of his rights and also reserved the option to buy 30% of his sports rights in 2025 and 2026 for £4 million each year, and the last 20% of his rights for £3m in 2027.

23.5m quid in toto.

He is deffo worth that IMHO, especially compared to the myriad dregs we dished out roughly the same or far more for.

It doesn't seem like we bailed on it. Just moved the goalposts & his team decided against going ahead with things.

That's exactly something I can imagine those calling the shots to do, tbh.

I am not heartbroken over it atm.

Irritated perhaps.

Time will tell if we cocked it up badly.

I wouldn't have cared if the Gallagher/Felix deal didn't happen. What bothers me is that it happened and we ended up getting the short end of the stick.

What bothers me is that we spent money on Felix and then 6 months later he's keen to jump ship and run off to another club and we actually allow it to happen.

That just sends the wrong message to any player we buy in the future.

Blame Maresca genius team management, Veiga and Felix wanted to get away as soon a possible, Nkunku as well but didn't get the move and now can't be arsed when playing.

We are seen as a business, first & foremost. Those making the decisions where transfers are concerned haven't got an actual plan in mind. The entire direction we have been going on & off the field since the acquisition is extremely worrying.

Maresca wasn't keen on him, & rightfully so. I know you have a great fondness towards Felix for some reason or another. Blame Maresca all you want, but those mentioned are down to him.

1 )Felix isn't up to top level football

2) Nkunku just isn't a better option than Palmer

3) Veiga seemingly wanted to play CB

The club allowed it because of 🤑

Any reason to cut costs, this new ownership will do it., no matter the consequence

Sorry to say this, but Maresca was the one who enabled this by allowing Felix to leave.

The same would have happened with Nkunku too.

Regardless of the opinion on Felix, the lack of options up front especially given the unavailability of Mudryk exposes us badly. If either one of Sancho or Neto gets injured, team will be in dire straits. Felix was let go without getting a replacement.

If Maresca was smart would've kept the group together see out the season and let them go in the summer, he clearly tossed some aside and has his favorites, and Chalobah return only confirms this. If we fail to get Top 5 he is the biggest reason why we failed, this squad has holes but is still good enough to get CL this season.

And honestly the reason he tossed some on the side so nonchalantly is because until not long ago CL wasn't even an objective he said so himself probably didn't even care to keep the whole group together just work with those he likes but when he saw fans angry changed tone.

No one knows if the club pushed for a replacement or not. Keeping him despite the manager clearly not being a fan doesn't suit either party, tbh.

I agree. He has been over reliant on underperforming players (Sanchez being the prime example of that), and it has cost us when we need to chase a result. We all knew Maresca would essentially be learning on the job, so the issues you mentioned are things we just have to hope done end up ultimately costing us a CL place that looked nailed on at the start of December.

Pretty sure Conor was slated on this forum by almost everyone, now he’s the goat 😂 make your minds up

He was the lesser of three evils (Felix, KDH), our captain for large parts of last season, and could actually be relied on. If this was 09/10, we wouldn't even be mentioning his name.
