The price tag is what gets me. People can hate on Drinkwater as much as they want, but at least he was a PL winner.

Chelsea have just played one of their worst halves of the season in the game away at Copenhagen.

The Blues were so devoid of energy or ideas in the first period, it was honestly hard to watch.

Simon Johnson of the Athletic called it what it was:

“That’s the end of the what was a very dull half. 0-0. #CFC playing too slow and with little imagination/ideas,” he Tweeted.

On TNT Sport, Joe Cole said they’ve been “playing at 85%”, which is perhaps even generous. There’s no excuse for not being at 100% in a European knockout game, no matter who you’re playing. They simply have to do better in the second period.

If you want to put a number on it – they managed a total of 0.02 xG in the half – a truly pathetic effort. Copenhagen deserve a lot of credit for their efforts for sure, but this shouldn’t be a competition really. We expect something very different in the second period.

Dewsbury-Hall gets slammed for efforts between the lines

One player who has come in for particular criticism online is Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. He’s been blessed with something of a free role between the lines on the left, but has been so poor. He’s not been able to create anything.

Various influencers online called him a “useless flop”, some in even harsher language.

“The fact he’s playing is spitting in the face of every academy midfielder,” said another.

“The less said about Dewsbury-Hall the better. Shocking acquisition,” said Alex Goldberg of last summer’s £35m signing.

“What does Dewsbury-Hall do?” was one question which rather summed it up.

He ended the game with a 6.6 rating on SofaScore, which is the lowest of all the starters who completed 90 minutes. He’s not good enough for this level – and certainly not good enough for the level we want to get to.

The more worrying thing for me isn't he sucks hard but the fact Maresca knew him and still picked to sign him.

maybe a few, but not many

do not conflate being ok with selling Conor with saying KDH was an upgrade

Absolutely not. There was many many many more than just a few. But they know how daft they look now.

Even getting Felix for Gallagher was conceived as a great deal by many…. again, how stupid did that move turn out? The manager didn’t even want him and he is now at his 3rd big club in about 5 seasons (2 spells here). Clearly an issue there. Not to mention the chance of a hit we will take with a sale so the whole PSR/FFP shit around that sale and buying Felix will probably end up undoing itself. Unless Milan are all of a sudden extremely flush and want to give us £42m+

Absolutely clear that CG could of had a good role here. Not even sure how folk could deny it after the season with Poch too.

Still don’t get that if Maresca was as good a coach as he was to be perceived, why couldn’t he have coached CG into a better player in the way Simeone looks to have done also as well as how Poch improved him?

Precisely but seems to he a lot of back tracking and that it wasn’t that. Least he can run more than 5 yards without being out of breath too! Enzo Fernandez looks like he’s towing a static caravan still.

Maresca's talent id isn't exactly great, he let Felix/Carney leave in January and now we're stuck watching KDH play conference league games.

That would be a horrific transfer.   Ramsdale is not an huge upgrade on our current keepers.
