Chelsea Transfers

Listening to a Poch just now, it sounds pretty much 50/50 whether we even do sign an attacker before the deadline. He wants one, the club are working hard behind the scenes, but they might come back and say the right player is not available. He says he’d be happy even if we don’t make another signing. Which says to me that that’s a real possibilty.

It is definitely possible we wont sign anyone imo.

I think part of the reason we've been a bit slow on some of the moves and are still looking at it now is that we have a few cooks in the kitchen (at very least PW, LS and Poch but maybe Joe Shields as well) and all of them have to agree to every transfer which means that a lot of players we might otherwise have gone for could be turned away by 1 guy who's not convinced. No doubt some but not all like Vlahovic, Cherki, etc so we ended up not going for them.

I agree with us being patient and waiting for the right opportunities - 100% more NJ like opportunities will emerge every window, they always do, new players / value opportunities are coming through all the time so taking our time with the absolutely insanely talented scouting group we've got you just know as the years go on with them working together the squad is going to become insane.

BUT it scares me that Broja is our plan B for NJ if he is out atm. I believe the forward player they're talking about who can play across the frontline is more of a Rashford profile than a Cherki, and someone like that would make me feel pretty relaxed about the season and our top 4/5 chances.

Lee is there also and Asensio

2 are overrated IMHO:

Lee, 23yo in a few months so not a super young youth player, had only 9 league goals in 6,000 league minutes, only 10 goals total in all comps, in around 7,000 minutes with Valencia, I never truly rated him at all, was very surprised PSG bought him (and Asensio), as they usually buy players I lust after (Mbappe, Hakimi, Marquinhos, Nuno Mendes, Donnarumma, Skriniar, Dembélé, Verratti, Carlos Soler, Vitinha, Nordi Mukiele (he would be great cover for us whilst Reece is out, if Malo cannot go), and (he is not working out atm, despite a really good first season) Hugo Ekitiké

Asensio (28yo in several months, so only one more full sub 30yo season after this one) may restart his very much stalled career, but I would take Barcola (20yo, soon 21) over him all day, all night, for us

throw in Mbappe and Dembele

Mbappe is gone in 10 months and (as some like to point out, rightly so) Dembélé is oft-injured

We currently have 3 wingers in our squad, wouldnt call that inflated

We want someone that can play wing and at CAM. Think given our squad and with the injured players coming back we are better off waiting until next summer.

What is the price talk tho?
can’t see them entertaining bids under 50m tbh. Young, English, HG, over 100gs experience, can play everywhere in midfield and attack plus has 3 years left in his contract. He basically is their mount but with a higher ceiling and we sold mase with 1y left for a hefty fee.

In what world is ESR 'ceiling' higher than Mount's?

Mount is only one year older than him and has more than double the amount of goal contributions for Chelsea (33G+37A) than ESR does for Arsenal (18G+11A) in roughly the double amount of games/minutes. Mount has also made an actual difference in the UCL and has been a regular part of the England setup since he was 20 while ESR at 23 is still just all fart no poo. Up until now the only season where ESR was a regular starter for Arsenal was when they were still shite as a team.

Smith-Rowe has also just missed a full year of club football, playing just 200 or so minutes in all of last season for Arsenal due to injury problems and loss of form. If you think Mount's last season was bad, it was still infinitely better than ESR's who was barely fit to play all season.

For the right kind of deal I'd still be willing to take a punt on him because a reasonably young English lad on modest wages would always have some resale value down the line if things don't work out but somehow I doubt Arsenal would take just £20-25M for him.

Maatsen is not a viable winger

absolutely NOT convinced of that gambit at all

Than he is sort of redundant because he's a pretty poor defender. Burnley fans will attest to that.

A decision needs to be made on him.

We were playing that way already before Mudryk got injured, and Madueke is not injured anymore

As above, then a decision needs to be made on Maatsen.

he's young as has time to improve his defending. lots of these players will be learning on the job

His contract runs out in 24 too.

I have laid out so many LB options for years my head spins

the last one (and even that is probably now impossible for almost all of them):

we are very likely stuck with either Maatsen or the wretched CuCu and perhaps BOTH

for years I do not understand what either ownership regime (Roman, then Boehly) were/are doing at LB (and until Malo, at RB as well)

the CuCu buy was a ratfuck supreme, £118m total (fee + salary) for a player I NEVER rated and warned about over and over

maddening

Felix on loan would be the cheap, safe and possible and then gone in 1 year when nkunku is fit again. And we know what we will get. He can play at nearly all positions in attack. So i dont understand wh, we are not getting this done. He was a very good player last season.

Since it’s clear they hate each other and want the situation solved desperately, I wonder how much João Felix would cost to buy outright these days? Surely they aren’t still asking for silly money that nobody on earth other than Saudi’s would pay?

Like, in an era where bang average talents like Brennan Johnson could go for £50m or more and his teammate on the other wing went for £45m then surely Felix for around £50m would be a steal if Atleti would accept that?
