They are basically still the same player and were available last year when we already needed wb cover. We should have bought them back then ffs. Serious doubts over our scouting department. Hop aboard the train mate. It's my biggest gripe with the Chelsea set up over recent seasons. That 2012 - 2014 period where we bought the likes of Courtois, De Bruyne, Salah, Lukaku, Hazard, Oscar, Azpilicueta should have offered a blueprint as all of those players went on to success whether here or elsewhere. Instead whether through incompetent scouting or a change in recruitment planning, we moved away from this and would seem to rather see a player move to a next tier club first and prove their worth and pay the extra instead of taking a punt on a player for 2 or 3x less money but a less developed version of that player that needs time and patience. But even in the second scenario, a player could be loaned out for a year or two for that development like Courtois, De Bruyne and Lukaku all did so it shouldn't be a deterrent. I'm really hoping it's something the new ownership consider moving forward. They strike me as the sort of people that would be questioning why some of these players we're looking to buy have made moves in the last couple of years for a fraction of the price and will want to try and address that situation by positioning Chelsea to identify these players and try to recruit them earlier. Costa19 858
Emerson and Alonso will leave. Cucurella is cover for LWB/LCB and RLC is cover for RWB hence why we target left side instead of right side. We already have the cover for the right side in the team. James can cover for RCB if needed also.

OhForAGreavsie 6,076
Gvardiol clearly has the attributes to play at LB if required, even on a full time basis.

Pizy 18,928
Gvardiol and Cucarella both doesn’t make much sense to me. I think reports about Cucu playing at LCB are sounding more and more plausible. In which case, buying another purely left sided, left footed CB for massive money makes no sense. If Cucu is coming in we need to target a RCB which is where Fofana comes in. lucio

Magic Lamps 11,692
Not opposing either signing but can’t state often enough how massively risky both are. We are overpaying 80% on each Fofana broke bone and medial ligament of his right ankle (he is right footed). While it is possible to regain full athleticism as that ligament can be patched together we will not know for sure for months Cucurella is perfectly ok but there are so many players with similar ability available for half the money… really hope we get this right also pls don’t offer crazy wages
