I honestly don't think signing havertz will remotely stop us signing defenders etc

It might if we don't qualify for CL.

Matt Law said the other day if we do qualify for CL, then there will be an additional 50 million to spend in the market.

Obviously that will be a big hit (thankfully Leicester are currently helping us out there) but part of me thinks Roman is up for it this year. Plus we seen to do a more than decent job of balancing the books by getting top dollar for average players. Talk of extra 15 mill if hazard wins the League with Madrid, bakayoko going, possibly jorginho and Emerson. Think we could do it ok

On selling the players bit, let's see us sell first before getting far too ahead of ourselves.

?? How would we know that she had in the past? Why is that even a question? She seems to constantly get us good deals. Not sure what you mean

I meant her setting the fee too high that clubs are not willing to pay.

You're talking about someone who didn't want to sell Willian for 60-70 million...

And a brilliant decision that was. Imagine losing willian and getting a new winger, all the while knowing that hazard IS going to leave us the next year, with a ban on the horizon. (Because that is exactly what our board would have been expecting in the summer of 18)

People seriously need to give board the credit that it deserves. And atleast think things through. Imagine not having willian this season and replace him with another young unproven winger or an expensive one (though not many options were there at that point).

In all, like I said, a brilliant decision.

Am sure @Vesper has drawn up a list of potential replacements for Willian back then somewhere. But you're kinda focusing only on the downside had we sold Willian when we could have easily gotten the big fee for him and gotten someone younger and better. And let's face it, Willian is consistently average. He will put in 5 exceptional performances out of 50 games per season and the rest he just doesn't do much but people will think he's great and all that.

The problem is that he may be average, but all coaches love and rate him, especially at the beginning. Sarri said that Willian will not leave Chelsea because he rates him highly. In the end, Willian was on the bench and Pedro was playing

Willian always provided balance. His work rate allowed hazard to have the freedom of the world while himself kept adding a body in midfield. I am sure if a young available winger was there, we would have done the deal, I mean we did do it for pulisic did not we?

I am sure if he was so replacable as we fans feel, then Rafa, hiddink, Jose, Conte, sarri or lamps would have. Even now lamps would not be saying that he wants willian to stay (he is not fighting for pedro, so we know it's not just out of courtesy).

Point is, people think it's simple, while it really is not. Those people are at those positions for a reason and they are doing a good job.

Willian wasn't here when Benitez was the manager. Hiddink didn't do much apart from just steadying the ship. Conte and Sarri played Willian initially but went with Pedro later on anyway.

Lovely...then why do we even having discussions? Why do we even have forums? Let's just pack it in and be passive fans...

This 'reasoning' is such a convenient or lazy one to be thrown around when you happen to agree with a certain scenario. Because when you don't agree with it, this 'reasoning' won't even be mentioned at all.
