Mikel isnt bad, mikel not the problem

if he pair with player who have mobility and pace

Team will face problem

and Mikel will be average shit when the team want to play possesion

If mikel get pair with Lampard

I hope RDM doesnt try that again, lampard-mikel

Because that pairing is looks the worst combination for our double pivot

Meanwhile mikel-ramires, ramires-lampard, mikel-romeu, ramires-romeu is looks much better

Call it a coincidence or a fluke, but Mikel's two best games this season were when he was partnered with someone other than Lampard.

Newcastle - partnered with Meireles

Stoke City - partnered with Ramires

You can now add the Arsenal game. There is no doubt about it, Lampard is the weak link and the problem, not Mikel.

Oh my fuck'n god, cant belive this, this is in now 7 years the FIRST time I've read this rating of obi van at skysports:

Fans' MOTM: Mata, deservingly so. Fans' flop of the match: Koscielny, again, makes total sense.

Skysports rating: Mata 7, Koscielny 7...???

Everyone else seems to be impressed with Mikel's display against Arsenal, but in all honesty, I was a bit disappointed with him. He wasn't very composed yesterday like you'd normally expect him to be and made some hasty challenges. If I'm not wrong, he was at fault for Arsenal's goal when he was easily tricked into attempting a block by Gervinho (I think). Maybe I'm being a bit harsh since the tempo was very high throughout the game.

I think it was Cole or Mata that left space on the left flank allowing that cross to come in for Gervinho. I don't think Mikel was at fault in anyway.

agree and Luiz was the man who should have closed Gervinho down

Well I think you're unfairly heaping it onto Luiz there. JT could have done something as well. In the end though I think it was just a clever check back run from Gervinho with a surprisingly great finish. I don't think Luiz and JT could have done much. It was more down to Cole and Mata.

gervinho . was between terry and luiz ball passed Terry and juiz ran back to our goal ..might have closed or blocked ...the main point though

MIKEL was NOT to blame.

As others have said, goal was not Mikel's fault in the least. Some goals are obviously one player's fault (like Cech's mess-up against Redding) but a lot of goals are because a couple of players made minor mistakes and this was one of them. A little too much space here and a little too much space there and presto, goal. Mikel and Ramires did make a complete mess of the play leading up to the Giroud miss though but it was a miss. Still, Mikel played well as he usually does.

MIKEL THE MAN

Posted on: Tue 02 Oct 2012

His manager and a long-term team-mate have both praised the work of John Mikel Obi in Chelsea's midfield.

The Nigerian attracted criticism following our last Champions League game against Juventus after he surrendered possession to the Italians in the build-up to their second goal, but with almost 250 Chelsea appearances to his name, the 25-year-old remains a highly valued member of the squad.

'Everyone has an opinion but ever since he joined the club he's played a lot of games, all the important games, and he's never missing from the team if he's available for selection,' Cech said. 'He's very useful and he was part of our success over the years, he's a massive player and we are happy to have him in the team no matter what anybody else says.'

Speaking last night prior to our training session at Parken, temporary home of FC Nordsjaelland, tonight's opponents, Di Matteo echoed the goalkeeper's sentiments.

'I don't know why Mikel is underrated by the media or the fans. He is very rated by us in the group and it's a position where you're a bit of an unsung hero,' the Italian explained.

'You do the dirty work which is not recognised all the time because the goalscorers and more creative players get the recognition. But he is very important for our team, he breaks up the play, he is physically strong, he is getting better on the ball with his distribution and dictates the tempo of the team as well so we are very happy to have him in our team.'
