Drogba lined up for backroom role

Jose Mourinho "doesn't know" if Didier Drogba will play on beyond the end of the season, but says the striker will have a job at Stamford Bridge off the pitch when he does retire.

The 36-year-old scored as Chelsea beat Tottenham 3-0 on Wednesday.

"The important thing is he is here and will finish his career with Chelsea," said Mourinho.

"It looks, for me, that he's going to stay doing other things when he finishes his career."

Drogba won 10 trophies in his first spell at Chelsea between 2004 and 2012, and scored 157 goals in 341 games. He rejoined the club at the start of the season after leaving Turkish side Galatasaray.

Since returning to Stamford Bridge the Ivorian has netted five times, while he also set up Eden Hazard's opener against Spurs to set the Blues on their way to a victory which maintains their six-point lead at the top of the Premier League.

"It's remarkable," said Mourinho, when asked about the striker's performance levels. "First of all he's a team player. He's not selfish, not vain. He's a humble guy who plays for the team, fights for the team. He's fantastic.

"I was expecting exactly this. I played against him at Real Madrid and I could feel the kind of potential he still has."

Mourinho also confirmed Gary Cahill is OK after the defender was substituted at half-time against Tottenham following an earlier clash of heads with Jan Vertonghen. "No concussion, no need for special care,"

Mourinho said. "He was just feeling maybe afraid of heading the ball. When a player is a bit afraid it was not good. It was a good opportunity for Kurt Zouma under pressure.

"He's playing very well every time he plays. I'm so happy with his evolution since he arrived. He will be a big player for Chelsea for many years."

A 36 year old monster still. I couldn't believe people on here asking for Remy before last nights game, he's hardly featured and DD performance when called upon have been solid as a rock. I was delighted to see Remy score however, took his goal brilliantly and we now have a great headache when it comes to selecting of strikers when Costa isn't ready.

DD is still the king.

Question: Is he playing better now that he did in his last year and a half in his last spell?

I think he is. Maybe because he isn't playing as much and is hence in a better physical condition, but he's really surpassed all my expectations so far.

He played really well in that three months under Robbie, a lot of big performances, not just goals. But the 12 months leading up to that wasn't particularly memorable.
