Yeah, I'm with you on this.

Fee is too much but I'm not going to hold that agains the player, it's not his fault the market has gone crazy. As a player he's actually quite decent and look at it this way: knows the league, already has experience of playing alongside Kante and at his age coming from a lower side he's probably more than happy to accept a smaller role than the other midfielders in the team so for a squad player he has the potential to be a great signing.

He's one of those players who can be called upon to do a job in the league anyday but not quite enough to make me convinced when going up against the big boys in the Champions League, but unless something unexpected happens he wouldn't be in line to start those kind of games anyway.

Exactly! Excellent post!

Looks like we're getting Ox, Dan, and another Fernando this week. If they're all done before deadline day, then can we expect one more on deadline day for left back?  Maybe the backups are Moses/Ox and Pedro for wingback.

I like the Ox signing. I think he will become an improved player at Chelsea.

He's approaching the peak years of his career.

Why would someone at that point in their career be happy with a place on the bench or a smaller role than he currently has at Leicester?

Can someone please answer this for me please without having to resort to saying that we need squad players....

He epitomises mediocrity and the complete reverse of player we should be going for and no-one here is going to convince me otherwise.

so he can retire having played at an elite club, for one of the best managers in europe alongside some of the best players, and hopefully have a good honours list to look back on

He can fight for his position. If he can to do this where is the problem?

Because you think that he isn't good enough to start  the game .

But everyone has already established that he is to be 4th choice here.

If that's the case then he's not going to get a look in is he?

Which brings me back to my original point...

He strikes me as a late bloomer that's only really kicked on in the last couple of seasons.

Who's to say he's reached his ceiling. He perhaps feels he's hitting his prime and fancies testing himself at a bigger stage.

If he works hard and performs I fully believe conte would play him over others if he deserves to play. That's the only true chance any player needs...

I'm just trying to picture scenarios where he actually gets meaningful minutes and isn't just a bench warming League Cup player. I mean, now that Bakayoko is approaching full fitness and Cesc is still very much an important player when does Drinkwater get a game?

Squad depth mate. He probably knows he will need to be top notch to be in this side but with the amount of games coming up in consecutive weeks he will be needed and that's his chance to stake his claim.

At some point Cesc will need a rest, as will Kante and Bakayoko, then it's the time of DD to step up.

True. It's just hard to imagine Conte resting 2 of Baka/Kante/Cesc at the same time. Could be injuries, though.

Like others have said, I'm coming around to this idea. Will be a decent signing.

Real quote?

Don't post everything you read online.

He was asked if he was worried about his place now that we're signing Drinkwater, he said he isn't afraid of competition. selective quotes/translation can be missleading.

Every eventuality needs to be considered like you said. Suspensions, injuries and not only that but form, it's a massive season game wise compared to last seasons campaign.

He will be needed.

If there is one saying that will epitomise this window will be the term “squad depth”...

Let’s be honest here, out of all the CM’s that were available, was Danny Drinkwater at the top of the list for anyone? No.

So the only reason certain members are now saying they’re ok with this is because we’re three days from the window closing and we have run out of viable options.

Which then we have to conclude that this situation is the result of poor planning from the board.
