John Terry is ready to come out of international retirement in an effort to win a place in Roy Hodgson’s World Cup squad.

Chelsea skipper Terry lead England into the last World Cup in South Africa four years ago when Fabio Capello’s team flopped.

He then stood down in September 2012, after being suspended for four matches by the Football Association over the Anton Ferdinand racism row – even though he was cleared of criminal charges.

Now the dust has settled in that incident, the 33-year-old is ready to make himself available for England’s friendly with Denmark in March and would win his 79th cap if selected.

CLUB METRO: Why JT return for England makes perfect sense

The Sunday Mirror, however, says Hodgson will be under pressure if Terry says he wants to play for his country again.

He is loyal to Everton centre-half Phil Jagielka and Terry’s Stamford Bridge team-mate Gary Cahill, while Manchester United defender Chris Smalling is a personal favourite with the England boss.

Hodgson also stated in November that a recall for Terry was not on the cards and he may be reluctant to go back on his word.

But Terry has been the best centre-half in the Premier League this season and has the experience to be an invaluable asset in the heat of the World Cup finals in Brazil later this year.
