At what point is it worth to try to sign stop gaps only to try ro win UCL this year rather than actually planing for the future?

Arent you oftenly bashing Mourinho because you stupidly thinks he "traded the future" for 1 League Title?

Funny...

here are some of the names that have come up in this thread:

Right-back. Fabinho (Monaco), Coleman (Everton).

Centre-back. John Stones (Everton), Laporte (Athletic de Bilbao).

Defensive Midfielder. William Carvalho (Sporting Lisbon), Kondogbia (Inter Milan).

Creative Midfielder. Gundogan (Borussia Dortmund), Bernardo Silva (Monaco, but maybe he is a N. 10).

Offensive winger. Marco Reus (Borussia Dortmund).

Forward. Kane (Tottenham), Pato (Sao Paulo).

along with max mayer.

i dont think (except for pato), even one of them will be a stop gap. most (if not all) of us are looking towards the future as well as the current predicament.

if you are referring to me, i've never said that.

and who said a player brought in to boost CL chances, wouldn't count towards our future?

what about Wanyama :D

Big fan of Wanyama! Think he's done really well for Southampton, first Kenyan to play in the PL :D. He wants to leave too, wanted to go Spurs but Soton wouldn't sell after losing Schneiderlin.

In Jan the right offer could trigger something.

Wow no mention of Aubameyang? his pace alone would make us formidable.

i think costa and remy are good. right now, our priority (for this window) should be a CM and a LB (so that we can shift azpi to right and iva on the bench).

There was only one destination.

1. Real didn't want him anymore.

2. PSG couldn't buy him because of FFP so Utd were the only interested club (able to afford him).

A lot of people bring up Utd's situation before but remember they wanted to buy a lot of quality players and failed to attract them.

Gundogan has options, Barca is one of them. And he can stay at Dortmund. Don't think he'd move in January.

Clever purchases and hidden gems will most likely be the way to go.

Tbh he was about to leave dortmund in summer but no club was ready to pay him 10m euro paycheck. Then he extended with bvb BUT only for two years to 2017.

I think there is HUGE chance of him moving if we (or another top club) bids 30m+ for him.

The only question is not will he leave but where. And barca if realy interested are one hell of a competition for us.

But its not impossible. If w

That said, I dont trust our board much. They would offer 40m for stones, but at same time say 20m is too much for gundogan.

Because lets say we have a CB, CM and ST as ideal targets but all (or some) cant play in the UCL. Should we sign a different player just because they can play in the UCL?

I honestly think this would be a very bad strategy or the future since they might do a Fabregas/Costa AGAIN due to them not being our primary intention.

Anyway, what I am trying to say is that onlyngoing for players that can play in the 2015-16Champions League is not how transfers should be handled. Just like I disagree we should splash on big signings to try to salvage a lost season.

Sissoko.

I like him, he's a beast - but maybe he's spent too long at Newcastle, he seems to have regressed :(

To @Rmpr point - I agree, we should be looking at players for the future, not just stop-gaps. No matter who we sign it is an impossible task to win the UCL - it would take more luck than our previous time :)

If we can grab some decent players at a fair price that we need for the future (definitely to replace Ivanovic and Mikel) then we should, a decent CM (B2B) would also be nice, still would love Modric...

Oh well at least there's some positivity around here :) nice :) I like it :) - even I'm not moaning :)
