zolayes 14,489
Essien looked slow mid-week when he came on, and of course that's because his just recovered from his injury, but sad to say I don't think we'll see Essien back to what he was a few years ago.he is a shadow of that player
bababoom 4,478
he is a shadow of that playerTrue, but he's still one of the best midfielders we have... how times have changed.

capriccioso 2,545
I think it's over for him. It's so sad to see him in his current state, like watching an old lion hunt.

It's so sad to see him in his current state, like watching an old lion hunt.He has lost quite a bit of sprint speed. Everything else seems to be coming back, however..In his current state, I would say he's still an excellent squad option.

Everything else seems to be coming back, however..In his current state, I would say he's still an excellent squad option.Don't know about that. QPR were godawful yesterday yet he was still really poor and lost out many times.Hes probably on 80-90k wages and I think we could get about 5m at least for him if we sell him to a French club. He's already 29 if I remember correctly. Honestly cant afford to keep a past-it Essien earning 90k a week at this club for a long time. If its just for next season then I wouldn't mind though. He doesn't have the passion or energy or drive anymore.
BlueLyon 9,359
He is still rated at 35mio. We could easily get 20mio because now players are realy expensive on his position and he is quite proved DM. I think we should wait some time, maybe he will get that passion back. No way would we get more than 10m for him.For what its worth, Transfermarkt had him down at 26.8 million as of January of this year.Edit: Damn you Kiaretta! Some of it makes sense though, he still has an earth shaking reputation, and his purchase would certainly provide an increased commercial interest, such as sponsorship, kit sales, etc. It's still mind boggling that he's rated at > 20 million though. kiaretta985

Not very accurate at allI don't think he's that well known though. I mean obviously they'll know who he is but I doubt there'll be that much revenue made from kit sales etc. Would Lyon be interested? Perhaps we could get 10-15m from a French club.Seriously though he's had 3 awful injuries, he's already in his "prime" and is an average, probably mid-table PL standard player at the moment. I think he's lost a lot of passion for the game as well. Can't blame him. It's such a shame. If not for the injuries he could/would have been the best in the world for that position. He needs to go imo. Too high wages, too "big" a name to keep around when the return we get is not good enough. kiaretta985
Madmax 9,219
We really should have bit Milan's hand off in the summer when they bid for him.

And you never know, maybe there he will get his back form again. But I realy wouldnt want to sell him just yet.

But if some team offers 7+ million, need to definitely take it.
CHOULO19 24,332
I was absolutely devastated by his display yesterday. He looks like he lost most of his passion, shied away from many challenges.
