Just keep fining him his week's wages.  If he wants to get paid again, he can move to wherever we sell him.

As I keep saying, if he wants to go back to Madrid so badly, he should drop his wage demands so that Atletico can increase his transfer fee (and match our valuation).  No issues.

Why should we sell him for a cut-down price if Atletico aren't willing to meet our demands? Costa is still under contract with us after all. Maybe he would have gotten his move earlier had he just handed in a transfer request and not like thrown tantrum like a spoilt brat.
JASON, why doesn't costa terminate his contract and then he can leave for free and he can become a free agent.

Players can't just terminate their contract. If that were the case, transfers wouldn't exist.

Because players can't unilaterally terminate their contracts whenever they want to, just like clubs can't simply sack their players to stop paying their wages without proper cause. If it was that simple, why would anyone ever pay multi-million transfer fees for players if they could just tell the player to terminate their contract against wishes of their current employer?

Of course it's possible that Costa might take legal action and seek termination that way, but it's just as possible that Chelsea may take legal action against Costa for skipping training and literally decreasing the asset's monetary value for the club. Matt Law wrote an article about this the other day:

I hope Chelsea board are very stent in this matter because they dont have anything to lose more, the damage is already done. Costa is contractual bonded to Chelsea till the end of his contract, yes there are few things which will be used by Costa’s lawyers like he is not getting regular first team but such finer points can be fought and won by Chelsea. Chelsea are in the driver seat, I feel that Costa & his legal team are aware of the same hence they are trying to use the pity person stance in media to put pressure.

If Chelsea lets this go without a fight it will only strengthen the so called player power and weaken the club on a whole.

I was one of the members backing him post January debacle, giving him the benefit of a doubt.

But to not show up in training and constantly going to the media and exposing out private messages between him and the coach, no respect for that whatsoever.

He has delivered when he was here but he can't forget he was paid handsomely and given the opportunity to be the main man regardless of his form.

Respect goes both ways, and if he and his agent indeed knew about their situation since January(as indicated by the club), he's got no excuse for this abhorrent behaviour.

Diego Costa leaves door open for sensational Chelsea return if Antonio Conte guarantees him a fair chance

Claims that he wouldn't be against a return as long as he's not left to rot in the reserves.

With all the weirdness this season, I wouldn't be surprised if we haven't yet seen the last of him on the team sheet of the main squad.
