The Skipper 20,609
I've been meaning to ask this, is PRIME Drogba the most complete striker you've ever seen? If not, who?Possibly. Mainly due to his impeccable ability in the air. Minus aerial ability I'd say Henry though, maybe Ronaldo 9 too but aerial ability is important in determining a complete striker so yeah. King DD all the way. IMO he never truly gets the recognition he truly deserves. Rambo

Absolute beast in the air, I was reading somewhere and they said he was the most complete striker and I was wondering if many people felt that way. I always assumed it was Ronaldo. The Chels 2,502
Drogba doesn't get that much recognition largely because his goalscoring record isn't amazing. The ultimate big-game player though.
Barbara 15,149
Yea, the aerial ability sets him apart. Absolute beast in the air, I was reading somewhere and they said he was the most complete striker and I was wondering if many people felt that way. I always assumed it was Ronaldo.I don't like Ronaldo because of biased personal reasons, but he's still the best CF I've ever seen playing and by a large distance (not that you asked me, but I wanted to share my opinion). That man before his first serious knee injury was a level above any other striker I've watched since I started following football - Drogba included.edit: maybe the difference is being the most completed and the best, I think Ronaldo is the best, never stopped to think if he was the most complete though because when you're as good as he is, and have so many tools, it doesn't matter if you have one weakness - like for example, aerial duel - which Ronaldo never had in the first place, although he wasn't exceptional on that. Not being exceptional in aerial ability didn't make him a lesser striker and he was still better than all the rest imo. So maybe the right question is: how much does being a complete player is important? I don't give a shit if Costa never scores a header for us, as long as he does everything he already does - especially something so basic as aerial ability. Any player in any position could be a good header and help the team in set-pieces and depending on his position (for example, being an AM) even in normal play.Half of Costa goals in the league came from crosses and he didn't use his head to net them in... so I don't care about him being bad aerially. Then you go back to the style of the country/league. England is the one place where crosses were everything about the attack - normal play or set-piece - so I understand people having a different perception and giving more importance for a good header. In Brazil, our style was about something else - jogo bonito - and heading balls in the net while a weapon was never something that important here... I didn't see a whole lot of Ronaldo, I only started watching football regularly around 12 or so, but was he better in the air than Drogba? I think DD is so impressive cause of his size, that at least has some to do with it.
didierforever 7,349
Definitely has the potential to be as great as DD for us. Barbara and Chelsea Legend 11

I think DD is so impressive cause of his size, that at least has some to do with it.he wasn't even that good in the air, let alone better the DD, that's my point. Just because he wasn't that good on that, doesn't mean he wasn't the best striker I've seen.I know many people consider Ronaldo the best - but those people are Brazilians, so they're probably biased. My feels about Ronaldo are the same as Messi. I don't like Messi at all, but I won't deny he's the most talented player I've seen playing. Just because I have personal reasons not to like Messi, it doesn't make him a lesser player.Costa not being dangerous in the air won't make a difference if he becomes the biggest striker in our history - tied or not with DD... Although many don't consider DD our best ever striker. I can't say, I haven't seen much/any of Osgood.

But besides that he had it all at the highest level. Dribbling, strength, power, speed, pace, finishing, superb with both feet. Even his passing and creativity were very good for a CF. I haven't seen any CF better than him. I can't even imagine how beastly he would have been if he was a monster in the air on top of everything. He was so good that even when he fucked up his knees several times and lost a lot of pace (akin to what happened to Torres) he still managed to remain as one of the finest strikers in the world. Before his injuries his numbers were better than Messi's at the same age. He led Brazil to a World Cup final at the age of 22. He was one of a kind type of player. Him and Zidane were the best players of that generation.Youtube videos are misleading, but take a look at these to give you an idea of how good he was: Madmax, DYC., Shaan and 5 others
RoyalBlues 4,050
We've heard all the praise for this man. Great he has some backing from Jose. But I have my concern about his temperament, not that I dislike it though, I like how he likes to pointed out that "hey b****, don't mess with me" behaviour. But I will not find that is fun anymore, until he get a red card and could cost some important points. Personally, I thought we're lucky to have some referee who 'just' give him one yellow card along the match. Wait until, we get some strict referee like Foy or Mark, I'm afraid Costa will be rewarded by them, if he has lost control for a moment. Well, we know how b**** they are to us.My point is, I hope Costa could hold himself a little if big games coming up, or when the strict referee coming in. Great to see it seems Terry and Fabregas has warned Costa, after every incidents involving Costa in Everton match.

He got booked for being goaded by Coleman (Costa hardly did anything) and when Howard grabbed him by his neck, he didn't react. If the ref had actually been competent, Coleman would have been booked and Howard would have been sent off. Barbara and RoyalBlues

But I could see under some referee, that incident after Costa shouting to Coleman, would be another yellow for Costa at least. Undeserved as we may agree, but I could see that happening, tbh. Hope he could stay calm, every opponent could b****ing all they want, just ignore them. Jose and Terry might have warned him anyway, so let's hope for the best. It would be great if he could finish the season with some trophies and never get any red card. The Chels
BlueLyon 9,359
I dont think the problem is that he will do something wrong (he will probably control himself), but referees see him as bad guy and will give him card for no reason oftenly. Diving is another one.
Special Juan 28,141
We've been used to a weak minded striker for too long in Torres, we should embrace what he has and that includes his edginess. It also works in the opposite manner too. BlueLion. 21,491
The thing about Diego is that defenders are going to become so occupied by him that he is going to create so much space for the wide players. He's a selfless player but he scores goals as well, that's a rarity amongst strikers. The only other PL striker I've ever seen that falls in that category is a certain Didier Drogba.
