The Skipper 20,609
That blog proves nothing, since when is 4-4-2/4-4-1-1 include a pivot? My idea of a pivot is a two man central midfield with one holding and one venturing forward a bit more to help use possession more effectively during the attacking/possession phase, whilst returning to a flat two base in the defensive/retrieval phase. 4-4-1-1 is basically a permutation of 4-2-3-1 anyway, and we usually go into a 4-4-1-1 shape when defending or trying to retrieve the ball anyway. I would classify the two in midfield Arsenal used to employ on several occasions (Fabregas with Gilberto/Flamini/Song) as a type of pivot, yes. The Skipper 20,609
Is he even suited for Counter football anyway?I'd definitely say he's more suited to direct, counter attacking football rather than tiki taka, hence why he wasn't a huge success at Barcelona. CHOULO19 24,332
That blog proves nothing, since when is 4-4-2/4-4-1-1 include a pivot? If you want to be technical about it, the we don't and have never played with a genuine double pivot. What we play is just a two man central midfield like any 4-4-2 or 4-4-1-1.
drog.ba 239
I don't think he'll sign, we should move for Koke who Mourinho reportedly prefersIt seems like Barcelona need to offload Fabregas to fund Koke's signing, which puts us in a strong position as we appear to be the only destination for Fabregas. The only teams I can see him joining are us, Man City/Utd, Arsenal and Bayern- who are all bar maybe City well stoccked in his position; at a push I could see him going to PSG but that depends on the leverage Barca have to force Fabregas out. Hopefully we can we stall over a deal for Fabregas whilst signing Koke

Jase 43,479
Would be funny if we get Fabregas and give him the No.8 shirt...You do realize that is written by someone just like us right? having a website doesn't make anyone a football expert. That's why I can't stand that site... they really think that because they have a site people visit that their opinion is holier than thou. LOLIF we sign Cesc and he plays in the pivot is that site gonna have a meltdown?Sensitive much? Firstly, don't think mediator meant anything else than to just share the views from a fan of a club that arguably watches and know more about Fabregas than we do. And really, it was just an opinion related piece. Don't get the overreaction here or the need to take things so seriously on the Internet. iseah100

What they're trying to do is prove a point that Cesc can't and won't play in the pivot because some guy who watches Barca says so... Not exactly the most compelling argument Especially when he says, “there probably aren’t many out there who have seen as much of Fabregas since he decided to leave England as Arron has”We all watched Fabregas, we all know Barca never play with a pivot, what we don't know is whether or not he can or will The Skipper and The only place to be

I do think an even more in-depth thought should have been obtained but yeah. And while Barcelona are famously known for their 4-3-3, they did tweak their formation and setup a little under Tata Martino last season. They didn't necessarily just stick with the same old 4-3-3 in every game.

Maybe we'll adjust it from last season or maybe he'll simply fit right in.But for me it comes down to the speed with which he does things. He's not lazy like Matt Le Tissier (who was also prodigiously talented, could score goals and pick out a pass) but he's certainly not that physical and he never seems to increase the tempo of a game with snappy passes like Modric. Maybe Jose can mould him and if he gets behind this signing then who am I to question it?But it worries me. Fabregas's idea of how football should be played and how he wants to play contradict to the qualities and ideas of Mourinho. It just seem odd. The last time we had a Spanish playmaker, things didn't exactly go all too well either... kellzfresh and The only place to be
Jase 43,479
Just to add to the point above, between Koke and Fabregas, would rather see us go for the former. They are both playmakers/creators but at least with Koke, we already know that he shouldn't have much problem fitting into the demands of Mourinho and given Simeone's style isn't too dissimilar. With Fabregas, it's almost like we have to remodel a player entirely. kellzfresh, mediator, The Mak and 1 other
