Ruud Gullit was on MOTD today and raised the point that on a sunny afternoon where the opposing team is playing in a risk free manner of course Fabregas will be magical. With no-one applying pressure, closing down space and restricting the time he has of course he'll knock up 3 assists from 4 goals today. He's got the quality, vision and accuracy. No-one's doubting that, but it's how he can be a better player by being stronger and tactically better. If he doesn't fit with Conte's system then he's going to find life at Stamford Bridge hard. chelseafan26

I agree, but I don't see much changing. He needs players behind him doing the dirty work for him to flourish. Conte's system and signings will play a big part in what type of Cesc we see next season. Essien19 1,415
It's sad when you see Fabregas these days and think what could have been. Once he had so much talent and the world at his feet. Sure he's special, but there was so much more to come, unbelievable... He has numerous deficiencies such as lack of pace and positional awareness that can be costly against the 'bigger' teams, but that doesn't take away from the fact that he is the best passer on the league. Eh? His passing had everything to do with the opposition and the way they played him. We all know Fabregas is capable of making great passes when he has all the time and space in the world. He very rarely makes great plays when he has opposition players pressing him. LDN Blue, Amblève., Madmax and 4 others

Yeah and how many players have that ability to make those passes? That's why he is the best passer in the league in terms of ability. Btw, most of the key passes he made yesterday were one-touch, so the argument about time is pretty weak in this particular case.

He may well be the best passer in the league but conditions have to be absolutely perfect for him to showcase said ability. 52 minutes ago, CHOULO19 said: Btw, most of the key passes he made yesterday were one-touch, so the argument about time is pretty weak in this particular case. Not really, he was in acres of space throughout the game and to his credit, he took full advantage. You credited and discredited him in the same sentence. TBF you know that when Pirlo had a marker on him he was non-existed ? There's a reason why he was left out by Milan and thrived in Juventus in the right system with Vidal and Marchisio. Even Xavi in Barca bad days, when they're not dominating is not very good. Still remember the horror show he gave against Bayern in 2012/13 ? He even was substituted early in the second half in the second-leg. Cesc is no Xavi in terms of keeping the possession however Cesc is still good when no one is throwing him under the bus. Yes, you have to provide Cesc a platform to perform. He has world-class abilities, however he has deficiencies that in bad shape can turn him into the worst player on the pitch. Otherwise don't bother. I'm starting to love Cesc, his off the pitch interviews and quotes are great and on the field he can be great and I hope we can make him look great next season. BlueLyon 9,359
If he cant play against opposition that presses high, then he should not start here, simple as that. And I must say Im positively surprised regarding his comments lately and passion he gives. But if he wont show that leadership on pitch, its pointless. LDN Blue, Styles and Essien19
chelseafan26 293
Why dont we all hold our horses and give ourselves one more week. Why dont we see how the apparent "best passer" in the league performs against one of the best drilled teams and pressing teams in the league. Essien19

Didn't state anything that differs with any of the above. Also, I specifically said 'time' not space because there was obviously lots of space yesterday. Of course he's no Pirlo (and even Pirlo was marked out of plenty of matches in his time at Juve), but I think we can create a system where we can capitalize a lot more on his passing abilities if Conte wishes to.

It made no sense to pass from the back. Once we got smaller players this system no longer made sense till we got Diego. A good coach will do his best to adjust to the players he has and or bring players to complement what we he has. And giving that we are not spending much like in the past this is vital today.

Cesc with the likes of Mikel, Matic (other slow midfielders) is a shambles. We need atleast 2 defensively GREAT and mobile midfielders to compensate for cesc, which would cost us another 60-100mil pounds. Hence, why keeping Cesc actually makes none to little sense at the club.
