Nike 373
Zidane was amazing! Veron - What a mistake that was Beckham - Great passer and dead ball specialist, takes more than being a nice guy and role model though. Giggs - Yeah he's won a lot of titles but he's never been that great Gerrard - Good passer but never really done it for me. Tends to go missing when it counts and I don't buy into the whole " Captain fantastic " Rooney - Scored a lot of goals but there have been plenty of other better strikers than him. Goes missing for England in tournaments, will never forget WC 2010Torres - 1 amazing season at Liverpool and their fans overrated him as usual Rio - Nowhere as good as he thought he was Bale - He is a great player but his fee alone overrates him Michael Owen - Turned to complete shit Players that deserve high rating ( THE Ronaldo, Maradona, Zidane, Raul, Figo, CR7, Messi, Xavi, Del Piero, Trezeguet, Iniesta, Shevchenko, Cannavaro, Maldini, Pirlo ) There are others but I can't be arsed to name any moreCr7 is great. Just not one of the greatest for me....Cannavaro and xavi to a degree are overrated....Agree with others
didierforever 7,349
This is easy....I'm going to get ripped to shreds buts its ok...Not in any order...Lampard, Luiz, Mata, Luke Shaw, Cristiano Ronaldo, Messi (to a degree), Suarez, Sturridge, Lukaku, Hazard on this board, Marco Reus on this board, Zidane (to a degree), Matic on this board, Inzagi, Kerlon, Dos Santos, Thibaut on this board, Casillas (to a degree), However, my number 1 is Cristiano Ronaldo. I have a lot more...Edit. Kaka is going to go on top of my most overrated player list....Cristiano is second. Xavi, Yaya toure (to a degree), Dzeko the past 2 weeks, Zlatan to a degree.hahahaha,,, so in your opinion every player in the world is over-rated.oh wait - the most under-rated players : heskey, carrol, torres, downing, djemba djemba etc etc. serious dude... Nike 373
Messi is in the top bracket, not Cr7. However, when I say to a degree, that is more in reference to being the sole person on top.
TheWiz 109
Wait Zidane? Are you nuts? The guys was exceptional with the ball. For me its Wayne Rooney. There are many reasons. One of them would be that he got voted 3 times footballer of the year for basically nothing.I'm not saying he wasnt a great Footballer .. he was certainly World Class like many others .. but he was not Special.First he had no Vision. Ive never seen him do a Genius Pass. And Ive never seen him tormenting Teams on his own.He was a square Passer. And a Ball Holder. But he was a Team Player and I appreciate that.I do agree that he had some kind of naturally elegant yet strange Body Movement. But honestly, does moving like a Dancing Queen make you a Football Great. Certainly not.Zidane rarely beat Players in Dribbling Situations. He was a Ball Holder. Not a Force towards Goal.Excessively so his attempts to beat Opponents often looked clumsy and arduous. And he had no special Instincts for Goal Scoring Situations (Something that you are born with but can be trained to a certain degree).Everytime such a Topic comes up, someone brings in the Argument of Zidane leading France single handedly to WC/EC Glory.Of course he did, especially with a Team that contained mostly Amateur Footballers like Barthez, Dugarry, Lizarazu, Dokaeff, Henry, Trezequet, Thuram and so on.I wonder how often he would have led Algeria (had he opted) to the Top of the Football World. He always needed great Players around him to be a success. A Real-Madrid Assembling worth 200 Million Dollars for example, to win the CL in 2002 for Example.Otherwise (lets be honest here) he would never have won it. And even that happened against Bayer Leverkusen. To be honest, I never saw Zidane doing something that made my Brain go like "Wtf was that"? I gotta see that again ..I only saw 5 Football Geniuses in my Life ... maybe 6 ... including Messi ....And Zidane certainly is not one of em. Far from it.That being said, I think he was still a great Football Player and a very likeable and great Person on and off the Pitch.

OneMoSalah 8,886
Hi Folks.Had a funny discussion at work today with a Colleague of mine (who is actually a Barcelona Fan). And we were arguing which players might be the most overrated in the history of the game. For me, I always think of the same two - they are unbeateble in that regard1) Zinedine Zidaneand2) Michael BallackWhat about you folks? Whos the most overrated in your Opinion? If Ballack and Zidane are overrated in your eyes then its fair to say every footballer is overrated... Most overrated footballer though, hmm I don't know. EBH 283
Alvaro Recoba. He was crazily talented and could pull off the most outrageous manoeuvers, score some really spectacular goals: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1fBHxR5yKIU But most of the time he was a waster. Amazing on his day, which only happened about once a month; terrible the rest of the time. He could have been Ronaldo (fat, not Cristiano) tier if he was more consistent. I consider him to be overrated because he was a star player in the Serie A back when it was far and away the best league in the world and so many consider him to be among the top five or ten strikers of the 90s/early 00s, but quite a few strikers from weaker leagues were better than him, and they never got the recognition because they didn't play in Italy. EBH 283
People calling Giggs and Scholes overrated are being really harsh. Giggs is the best Welsh player of all time and won't ever be challenged on that front, while Scholes was definitely among the best midfielders in the world at his peak. Plus their longevity is extraordinary, they were mainstays in one of the best teams in Europe for pretty much two decades. How many other footballers can claim that? Javier Zanetti and Paolo Maldini are all I can think of from the modern period.

The Mak 4,459
Manuel Neuer is perhaps the most overrated player I have ever come across in my entire life. I have yet to see him have even a 'good' game. I've mainly watched him in the big games (the two against us, against City, Dortmund, Real Madrid etc.) and he may as well have not been in goal for any of them.Maybe he's great in the Bundesliga, but he's certainly not a big game player. He was made look like a joke against Madrid, geting beat at his near post and all. Best keeper in the world? Don't make me laugh. Not even in the top 5. Courtois pisses all over him, he's 10 times the keeper he is.
