Ricardo Rodriguez

Rodriguez probably suits us more in footballing terms, while Shaw suits us more in club terms (english, fan, young,...)

Be it Shaw (I like him more as he is english) or Rodriguez (better Lb atm and cheaper), I think we will have massive upgrade in fullback department.

I highly doubt that Azpi would be our starting left back should we sign either Shaw or Rodriguez. Ivanovic would be the one that would move to being a squad player.

Shaw isn't more inclined to a move to United either - it's not like he's got Chelsea and United to choose between. No one has matched United's supposed crazy offer of £30m and £100k wages.

I honestly don't think Mourinho is going to give Shaw or RR more game-time than Azpi or Ivanovic which has been evident by the whole Cole situation, I'm sure Shaw and his agent will be taking that into consideration if Chelsea decides to match United's crazy bid.

Cole example is irrelevant because RR and Shaw are both better LBs than him IMO.

We wouldn't buy a left back at all if that was the case - if we just needed a simple back up we'd bring back Bertrand or PVA.

If we're spending big money on a LB I can assure you they'd start. Do you seriously think Shaw would come in and spend a season as Azpi's back up if we signed him for £30m?

That's one of the reasons why I'm not confident Jose is gonna spend big on a LB. It'll be absolutely crazy if he spent that sort of money and play Azpi and Ivanovic for most games.

I'm not a big fan of this guy, but I hear the name Felipe Luis nowadays. Maybe Jose is actually looking for a solid backup for Azpi this summer and not our future LB.

Btw...I am all in for buying Shaw for £30m

Fair enough. We're just going to have to wait and see then if we do actually shell out big money on a LB or not; if we don't then your theory is definitely correct.

Ricardo Rodriguez, Moreno, Shaw, all won't be cheap, but their price will probably in that order. Rodriguez is maybe 1 year ahead of Shaw, but 3 years older, if that makes Shaw worth double is another question. IMO neither is ready for Chelsea.

Better keep Cole for another year or bring back van Aanholt. Defensively he is maybe not quite as good, but his pace is so immense, when a striker gets past him, you can be sure Patrick catches him again.

30 million for Shaw?

Damn this is getting out of hand.

No wonder no one wants to buy English player, it's just an extortion!

£30m for 18 year old Shaw vs £15-20m for Established LB in Bundesliga who can attack and defend well and great at set pieces?

Very agree with you brother. And, for 30 million,we could have the best left back in the world like david alaba or jordi alba.

I like ricardo than the others left back. Other choice will be coentrao

Coentrao would probably be significantly cheaper too.

Interesting article. Ricardo tops the list of 'youngsters to watch'

I haven't seen him. Is he THAT good?

I've seen him play a few times now, which started after January when KdB went to Wolfsburg (when I was more skeptical about him because I never really heard about him before), mainly to follow KdB's progress a little, and I must say he's very good. Just seen on WhoScored that he's actually the 5th highest rated player in Europe at the moment, only behind Messi, Suarez, Ronaldo and Ribery. That in itself is amazing.

Could be. He's still young so people need to be patient with him but he's a very tidy player.

What any player like him needs is targets to aim for and that seems to be something we're going to have for the first time in a few years. Plus the fact he can take a free-kick is a nice bonus considering Costa is the most fouled player in La Liga this year and Hazard was the most fouled player in the Premier League - lots of free kicks around the box next season.

He's VERY good. For my money the best young LB in the business. If he is of reasonable price we'd be stupid not to grab him
