ja1 1,166
Not a good game from him. Too aggressive in the tackle, ball control not good enough which led to the aggressive tackles too.
OneMoSalah 8,886
Not great, at times Lampard exposed him and at times he let himself down with bad ball control and passes. Still its a learning curve for him. CHOULO19
bluesman2610 1,417
Haven't watched the game yet will do when i get home from work.. but that sounds like nerves for the 20 yr old.. but the way he was talked about in match thread sounds like he was woeful

Mufassir08 2,400
I know its just one game and this may be a bit knee-jerk reaction but i am starting to think that a loan would have been best for young Marco. English Freak 456
The lack of competition for the central midfield positions is very concerning.I'm happy that we signed Van Ginkel..but he's a work in progress.
The Skipper 20,609
I think him playing the holding role is the reason why he probably couldn't impose himself on the game today. Should've played next to a Ramires or a Mikel, but also not to forget this was his first game this season and like every player - you need minutes. The bad performance wasn't really his fault though. The occasion was just too much for him today, from the looks of it. Honestly expected Mourinho to haul him off early in the 2nd half, especially with that slender one goal advantage and his yellow card, but anyway...he has time to prove himself.Just wished McEachran got similar opportunities...but Van Ginkel offers lot more in the defense department. Special Juan 28,141
Rabbit in the headlights, not his fault, thrown in at the deep end and if people want to blame someone then blame Jose for selecting him against a very good Basle side which in my opinion Jose and Chelsea under-estimated by a long way last night. It was good to see him play, better off having a poor performance now..rather than at the business-end of the season. He'll learn from it and hopefully be better next time. All this patronising 'rabbit in the headlights' bullshit isn't necessary.

Don't take it personally. We had Ramires out, Essien not registered and Mikel with a slight niggle so it made sense to play him, especially considering his lack of playing time this season after a very impressive pre-season. He's a young lad so there will be nerves whenever he gets that first start but I thought he showed some good flashes in a game where we were somewhat disjointed. He wasn't the only one though and far more experienced players have had far worse games in the last 5 days.We simply have to support the guy, understand where he is right now and look for him to improve in the next game.
