Fernando Torres

Had a dream (well nightmare) Last night that one of my best friends got the chief executive job at Chelsea and the first thing he did was give Torres a new contract.

Did you kill him today? You can't take risks, it could become reality one day and only you could prevent it.

Asked if the World Cup winner would be leaving before the transfer window closes, Mourinho said: “No. I want three strikers in the team and I can’t do the season without three."

Mourinho went on to play down his decision to sideline Torres, as he insisted the former Liverpool ace will get opportunities this season.

Explaining the hitman's omission, he said: “What can I say. We had 11 on the pitch, plus seven on the bench, plus five that are not selected. I decided to keep the same team [that played against Burnley] and wanted to have a bench with a good balance; two defenders, two midfielders and two attacking players.

"Fernando was out but he worked fantastically well during the week and this is life in football. The important thing for me is he is a fantastic professional and, when I decide to play him, I know I’m going to have a positive answer."

Fernando Torres will turn down the chance to move Roma or AC Milan and stay at Chelsea, with Jose Mourinho insisting that the £50m striker still has a part to play in the squad despite not even making the bench for Saturday's 2-0 win over Leicester.
Every time my glimpse of hope of seeing him leaving gets destroyed....

Before you get too downhearted remember that Mourinho said the exact same things with Luiz and Mata. Mourinho may want him to stay but he also may not prevent him leaving if a bid comes in. Also, Mou has been known to be.... flirtatious... with the truth with the media at times, if for no other reason than to troll them. So don't read too much into it.

I don't know why he would want to play where he's not wanted.

I don't think he cares if he's 'wanted'...he's getting 175,000 a week for doing absolutely nothing!

Imagine if all our jobs were that easy, you could under-perform for multiple years and still get paid a strong salary, week after week after week...
