BleedsBlue 1,549
For me it is a non-starter. Yes the spaniard has been good today, but we should remember he has just come out of a drought of 24 goalless games. One good game against a mid-table side of the Championship shouldn't guarantee him to be in our starting lineup. He has a lot of thing to prove, while Didier has been consistent untill now, even if he hasn't been in his best form, he has been rather good, and he has been very good when it did matter (cf : against Valencia, City and Napoli). Its not that we all want Torres to start on Wednesday just because he scored today. He played really well today and to keep that confidence going its important that we give him a chance against City.Benching may dampen his confidence but the problem is we cant start him and Drogba. Ramires will be most likely starting as a right winger and I think it will be risky if we change our formation so that two center forwards can play together.Only solution is that RDM plays Torres as a left winger instead of Kalou but then what will happen to Sturridge and the rest. I just feel so bad for RDM,hes going to have a really hard time choosing his best 11. tmessy

Last time I checked it was Chelsea FC, not Torres FC. Tomo

Let's not forget that he will not be facing Leicester City's defense.Besides, what I claim that if he starts and fails to score, it will ruin all the confidence he built up in this game, so it is vital we keep him for a game that he is more likely to score in. Last time I checked it was Chelsea FC, not Torres FC.I am not saying that we should play Torres instead of Drogba but I am sure the team can perform well if Torres plays as a winger with Drogba.Lets not forget we play 3 crucial games(CIty,Spurs and Benfica) in a matter of 9 days.Surely you don't expect Drogba to start for all 3. Trueblue1982 48
Well chuffed for Torres today man of the match for me, i bet the weight of his shoulders was massive today, i think Drogba AND Torres should start wednesday, they showed they can play together wednesday and Torres has shown today he is more of a team player than sturidge. Torres was on form today and sould be rewarded with a start, for me you can see sturidge has been frustrated for a while now and why he opts for a shot on sight now, which for me is why Torres should start over sturidge wednesday. Sheva. 5,373
Happy for him, for months now he's had 'near' perfect games where he does everything except from scoring, but today he finally did it all.Just have to hope he has no intention of stopping, we need him in this run of games, 'cos Drogba can't start every game every 3 days. bluesman2610 1,417
Torres played brilliant today 2 goals 2 assists.. and the awareness that SB was behind him..Well Done Sir! :cfc:I dunno if any other of our strikers would have passed up a chance for a hattrick at the end of a game like Torres did today.. Well played thats the spirit we need in the club right now all for one.. Wavy Crockett
bababoom 4,478
Torres deserves to be starting anyway whether it's rw or striker. He offers more than selfish Sturridge, he runs back and actually passes the ball.
Tomo 21,751
The two goal droughts he has had in Chelsea colours, at the start of both of them there were games against Liverpool early on.Could it be Liverpool games that seem to demorilise his confidence? if that the case then maybe we should consider keeping him well away from the game at Anfield in May. Amblève. 4,995
The last time Torres score before today's game was in October 2011. Well I think we shouldn't expect any more goals this season.
BenficaGlory 86
Great to see him back into celebrating goals. It was starting to be painful to see player like him without scoring for so many games.
Peace. 4,352
I see your point. What about starting Fernando on the wing intstead of Daniel? We aren't in a position where we can afford to make gambles. If we are truly aiming to end up in the top four, then we should stick to the safest choices. Untill now, the Drogba-Torres partnership is yet to be proved as a good one. Hence we shouldn't start him.Last time I checked Torres outplayed Danny by a country mile in our last two games, and based on the fact of form and play that would merit Torres playing over him.Excuse me ? Torres outplayed Danni Sturridge in the Napoli game ? This isn't true. Torres has been praised for the same amount of work rate that Sturridge had done, though he has only got labeled as a greedy player. Furthermore Torres didn't managed to put the ball in an empty goal. And i think to be fair to the guy he showed today he is a team player and doesnt think of him self as torres fc, he had a cracking game today and should defo be rewarded with a start midweek and too right keep his confidence up he earned that today 110% start for me wednesday !Is it because he showed he was a team player that he has to start the next game ? No, not at all. If that was the case, Kalou, Bosingwa and Ferreira would also deserve to start games. And the fact he had a good game today shouldn't guarentee him to start the next game. Why ? Because what did he do in the games before ? He did fuck all except to have spend a whole day without scoring. No players should enter the first team right away just because they had a good game against a side coming from the Championship obscurity. He has to prove he is worth to come back in the starting eleven. He is yet to prove that. To prove he is worth it, he has to play good in few games in a row, and preferably against better sides than Leicester.
tmessy 139
the torres -drogba combo won us the game vs napoli... thats when we starting netting our chances... (other than drogbas goal)so if it beat napoli, its worth to keep nurturing...
Peace. 4,352
The Drogba-Torres "combo" didn't win us the game. They was no alchemy between the two of them. Actually this "combo" had a little contribution to the win. Henrique and Kostas
