It's always difficult having a conversation that involves Istanbul here. I often try avoiding mentioning the city's name anyway. Since Northern Cyprus isn't recognised worldwide and as it is considered 'occupied' land, it's the reason why students go to protest in Ledra every year and also the reason why Turkey is having issues joining the EU. Moreover, if you might not have realised foreigners live in Southern Cyprus.
