If I were a manager, I would never resort to listening to the fans for tactics. It would make you look ridiculous, on par with Rafa Benitez and Spuds. I'd stick to my philosophy and my plans A, B and C. I'd only reconsider changing my plans if they were tactically needed like against Juventus I'm sure many of us would have played a similar formation to crowd out the midfield...

Laff,

I used to be a coach for greco-roman and freestyle wrestling and the great part of it was that the parents rarely if ever intervened because none of them had the first clue about strategy tactics moves etc. I couldn't even imagine scouring message boards for help. I just talked with top coaches, top wrestlers, and watched film until I saw something interesting.

Now to be certain there are some fans that understand the game at a very high level, but as a manager you undermine your credibility if you are scouring message boards for ideas.

What's interesting is that the ability to coach has little to do with one's personal achievements but rather has to do with one's ability to inspire, one's ability to pay attention to details, and one's ability understand the psychology of the players and the team.

That's why you rarely see the top players in any sport become to good managers because it was too easy for them. For the best players they just worked hard and almost always they were great whereas for the common player it tends to be a mammoth struggle where results are inconsistent

and there a continual refining process to get that extra drop of achievement.

love the first part of this post.

when i say look at the forums, i dont mean im sturggling for ideas, best get ideas from here.

in detail: i would have my ideas and tactics and id play it how i like. however, i would glance at the forums to see what people are saying, see if they see something i havent thought about or seen in a player. you can ALWAYS learn. no matter who you are, i would still employ all my own ideas and how i like it with all the right justification. but knowing a little extra and other ideas is something that helps. you cannot stop learning.

managers have all their coaches and scouts who most likely tell them everything and more that you could see in these forums anyway. but if you werent to have those scouts/coaches/assistant manager advice...

would you look through the fan forums and why?

I think I would. Im a strong person and would make sure I don't let it affect me and my judgements, but I would look at whats said on tactics and personal and take it in to account for the future.

shoot.

I don't know if it's possible to take others' opinions into account and not let them play a role in your decision-making, but if it were possible, why even bother? That would be perfectly pointless.

Basically this is a plea to Robbie to say "To hell with your shit fucking 4-2-3-1 and playing Ramires RW and Lampard with Mikel. Moses should play and Ramires should go back into a midfield 3 in a basic 4-3-3 formation!!". You just want him to read it don't ya lol.

If i'm a manager i'd stick to my principles always. We all think we can do a better job.

If I was a football manager I would do my utmost best to go to Atletico Madrid and sell us Falcao

I would read it from time to time I guess to see how the fans feel about me and my methods but I wouldn't let it influence me. If I was a player though, I would register somewhere and follow things more closely, that I am sure of :D

In fact, perhaps I am a Chelsea player just observing things...

Just kick the shit out of Diego Simone, he used to do the same to everyone he played against. Then, hopefully, they will sell....
