Prior to that, he was benched in favor of Moses. He was benched in the club world cup as well. Mata played a lot of games under Mourinho, granted a lot were subs. Mata never did anything under Mourinho. You can say if, but, maybe, doesn't make a difference. Under Jose, Mata was not the same player as he was last season. I think the Oscar who scored and had a 2/3 shots on target per match , the one who used to shoot accurate strong shots and open areas on the pitch with his long passes and movements is a different one from who we're watching now! even his long passing range became shorter! It doesn't change the fact that he is a good player and has great potential. He definitely needs to relax his mind a bit. He will come through after the World Cup. Share Posted April 20, 2014 Still got immense love for Oscar but he just hasn't produced the goods when we have needed it most this end of the season. I actually have to say, Mourinho should have known better. With all his experience as a coach he must have taken into account how many games Oscar has played in what is only a short career. We needed to keep Mata as our main number 10 for this season and let Oscar slowly settle into his position. Taking Juan out and saying to Oscar, right you are going to be the main man in the center of midfield was just naieve from Jose. He needs to work in his strength and passing game for sure. Sometimes I do think, if Josh McEachran had really been given a chance in the number 10 role then he would have become as good for us as Ramsey has for Arsenal.McEachran had the best passing game out of all the Chelsea players currently in our first team squad. I've ran out of explanations for 4months of poor form. The only thing that can explain this is thinking about world cup. Hopefully he picks up for us at least in the champs league.
