Daniel Sturridge

The fact he demanded 75k a week to stay at City when he was 19 or 20.... surely he must not have had that much a ego thinking hes worthy of that wages... no?

Demanding money from Arabs is proof of his ego?

How about the fact that Hughes played Chad Evans ahead of him; signed the likes of Jo; Santa Cruz; Adebayor; for about 50 million and took City to mid table.

Torres must have a huge ego since his wage is 3 times higher than Sturridge in that case

Anyhow lets move on from this:

http://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2014/feb/24/liverpool-daniel-sturridge-luis-suarez-england-world-cup

True, in 129 Premier League matches, Sturridge has scored 54 goals – a bit under one every other game. But the unvarnished statistics mask the real picture: at Manchester City and Chelsea he was a bit-part actor in a giant theatre ensemble: he got a short scene here, a cameo there. Of those 129 Premier League appearances, 54 were as a substitute.

When you look at Sturridge's goal tally per 90 minutes in the Premier League across his career a dramatically different picture emerges. He has scored an average of 0.69 league goals per 90 minutes. That puts him ahead of all the other great Liverpool strikers in the Premier League era, including Michael Owen (0.59 goals every 90 minutes), Fernando Torres (0.53), Robbie Fowler (0.52) and, yes, Suárez (0.64).

More impressively still, Sturridge's tally puts him above Robin van Persie(0.68 goals per 90 minutes), Alan Shearer (0.61) and Ronaldo (0.52) when he was in the Premier League. In fact, Opta's stats show that only three players in Premier League history have scored at a better rate than Sturridge: Agüero (0.78 per 90), Thierry Henry (0.74) and Ruud van Nistelrooy (0.70).

I am all for bringing him back.

This kid can easily be the starting English striker for the next 2 world cups. People want an English core for the club then adding the lad leading the line is the perfect move.

Dont think he'd want to come back.

Always always said this boy would score goals if he was played. He proved that under Carlo in the FA Cup when he played. On his loan spell at Bolton and under AVB he scored left right and centre. Really don't understand why he was dropped by RDM tbh. And then we sell him and bring in Ba..... well done Chelsea.... well done!!

I think he was told to by the board, Chelsea was his dream job, you could see how badly he wanted the full time gig he would have accepted the "clause" no questions asked.

He is a great player - but I'm not sure he can lead a line

He needs a partner up front to play off...

For England tonight he looked awful - until the header - I know Hodgson played him out of position - but not sure he has what it takes to be a 1 man band - that's no bad thing...

To accommodate Studge - we would need to move away from our 4-2-3-1 formation and that was never going to happen (although part of me wishes it would)

So good luck to him - well played son - but I would still rather have Cavanni...

This goals per game ratio thing is misleading - apart from ours - most defences have been utter shit this year - that will definitely skew the results in the short term - but long term analysis irons out these blips...

They just couldn't help themselves could they. The board i mean. I'm hoping they have learned their lesson, hense the return of Jose. Sturridge could have been the answer to all our problems right now. With Hazard, Willian and Oscar feeding him, oh my how good thay could have been!!

Certainly wasn't awful, linked up well with his team-mates, tested the 'keeper twice, came the closest to opening something up for England 1st half when he attacked their CB, tracked back and scored a goal. I agree he's better as a strike partner but he's still got the quality on the ball and movement off it to be a threat as a lone striker.

And don't really but that poor defences excuse. Does it only apply to Sturridge or every player who's scoring goals right now?

Would swap this lad for Ba, Torres and Lukaku in a heartbeat. Biggest mistake alongside Torres that our board has made. Dunno if he would be ideal as a lone striker, but unlike Torres Ba and Lukaku he gives you options.

I agree with Torres and Ba, but swapping Lukaku would be ludicrous. A 20-year old that is also goal scoring ? Sturridge scored 11 in 30 games at 20. Lukaku has that in 19 games and also already equals Sturridge current assist tally/game.

It kinda looks very short term to me.

Playing out of position, as a right winger.

You can't really compare what they did at the age of 20 because they both were in a completely different situation/scenario...

Personally, we should've just given Sturridge a new contract instead of signing Ba, I was one of the few people saying this at the time and got blasted for it, when people on here would tell you that Ba is the better striker, which as we all know right now is not true at all.

Our strikeforce should've been X, Sturridge & Lukaku, but the club fucked up.

I did not say that to compare whatsoever. I made that statement to illustrate that saying 'id trade him for Sturridge' is just the kind of short term knee jerk you get around here.

Also, every player is 'in his different situation/scenario'. It doesn't mean I cannot react on the original implied comparison involved.
